New York Jets Release Wide Receiver Brandon Marshall

The New York Jets have decided to release veteran wide receiver Brandon Marshall. Jets beat writer Kimberly A. Martin first reported the story.

In recent days the Jets have cut Nick Mangold, Darrelle Revis, Ryan Clady, and a couple others. Releasing Marshall will create $7.5 million in additional cap space for the Jets. None of that money is guaranteed. He was entering the final year of his contract heading into this upcoming season. The Jets have cleared $46 million via roster cuts this offseason. This release apparently came at his request as he may not have been happy in New York with the desire to play for an elite quarterback and a winning franchise.

In 2016, Marshall caught 59 passes for 788 yards and 3 touchdowns. Marshall, 32, should be highly coveted on the free agent market. He will join the likes of Alshon Jeffery, Kenny Stills, and Terrelle Pryor. Marshall will likely join his 5th different team in 2017 after previous stints in Denver, Chicago, Miami, and New York.
