There’s A Reason Why Nobody Is In A Rush To Sign Cam Newton

Cam Newton is a free agent after being released by the Panthers. Nobody really seems to be in a rush to sign him either. A lot of NFL fans seem to be perplexed by it. My question is why? There’s a reason why nobody is in a rush to sign Cam Newton. Actually, there are 3 reasons why Cam is still a free agent.

A: Cam Newton isn’t that good. Cam has never had back to back winning seasons. Cam has a career completion percentage of under 60. Cam hasn’t had an elite season since 2015. Cam was downright horrible in 2019. Cam has never been healthy. Some have questioned whether Cam cares more about his postgame outfits than he does about winning.

B: Cam Newton isn’t healthy. The former number one overall pick from Auburn played in 2 games last year. He basically hasn’t been healthy for 3 years now. Newton missed a good chunk of the year before. With Coronavirus going around, nobody is in a rush to give Cam a physical. Not to mention his rushing ability is basically gone too.

C: The market is dry. For the first time in my life, there is an oversaturation of the quarterback market. Even the obvious quarterback needy teams don’t want him. Ask yourself this. You’re the Dolphins, do you want Ryan Fitzpatrick as the mentor or Cam Newton? The Dolphins and Chargers have their back up – bridge quarterback. Cam wants to start. Don’t blame them for not wanting to bring him in.

Who needs Cam? New England lost their mind but it doesn’t seem like they’re interested. Other than that, all the jobs are gone. Cincinnati, Miami, and the Chargers will draft their guy. More teams will draft quarterbacks. There isn’t an obvious landing spot.

Yes, there are teams like Pittsburgh that are interesting if Ben Roethlisberger doesn’t have anything left. Cam could fill the Teddy Bridgewater spot as a backup to Drew Brees. There are options. Cam will eventually find a job.

What might be smarter to do is wait for a training camp injury. One is going to happen in training camp or the preseason. Just a matter of time. Maybe Drew Lock goes down as an example. Cam steps right in. Maybe Matt Ryan goes down. Cam steps right in. Cam Newton will get a job. It just won’t be on his terms and there’s more than one reason why.
