The Jaguars have made a splash on the 2nd day of free agency signing Cowboys free agent safety Barry Church to a 4-year deal. NFL Network reporter Ian Rapoport had the details on the new contract agreement.
Church, 29, is a former undrafted player from Toledo. Church spent his first 7 years of his NFL career with the Dallas Cowboys. This past season Church had a big breakout season recording 85 tackles and two interceptions over the course of 12 games. Pro Football Focus gave him a player grade of 85.3 which was good enough for the 11th best safety in the NFL in 2016.
Church will join Tashaun Gipson in the Jaguars secondary as impending free agent Jonathan Cyprien seems like he will now be headed elsewhere. The Jaguars have a ton of money to spend this offseason and may not be done spending anytime soon.
The Cowboys simply didn’t have the cap space to retain Church this offseason.
