New York Giants Improve Offensive Line By Signing D.J. Fluker & Re-Signing John Jerry

The New York Giants have made it a priority to improve their offensive line this offseason. They have retained guard John Jerry and added D.J. Fluker via free agency. Ian Rapoport broke the news on Jerry while Mike Garafolo reported the Fluker transaction.

Jerry re-ups with the Giants for 3 more years. His deal is worth a total of $10 million along with $4.25 million in guarantees. Jerry’s return is rather important because Marshall Newhouse and Will Beatty are not going to return to the Giants for 2017. Jerry, 30, started all 16 games for the Giants in 2016.

Fluker comes to New York on a risk-free 1-year prove it deal. The Chargers declined his 5th-year option worth $8.82 million making him a free agent this offseason. The former 11th overall pick in 2013 has disappointed thus far since coming out of Alabama but is still only 26 and has the tools to turn it around. Fluker will likely slide over to the right tackle spot now that Jerry will occupy a guard position opposite of Justin Pugh. Fluker did not miss a start for the Chargers in 2016 serving primarily as a guard.
