The Kings Have Trust Issues

The Kings are having trust issues. YIKES. Buddy Hield had some jarring comments for reporters. (Sue Ogrocki/Associated Press)

It seems like things never seem to go right for the Sacramento Kings. After entering the season with such promise, things are going south. The Kings are currently 12-19 and have actually taken a step back despite having some young players that were expected to grow. Buddy Hield is one of those guys suffering.

Buddy Hield was benched against the Rockets and barely played in crunch time in a loss to the T-Wolves. Hield is not happy and had some glaring comments:

“It seems like we’re all over the place, the coaches and everybody. Trust issues going on. I guess guys, they stop believing in players. So, it is what it is, man. They have who they have playing out there, and I’ve just got to be supportive. I’m a team-first guy, no matter what. I feel like we should’ve won that before regulations. But I’m not the coach.

I don’t know. I’m a confident player. I like to be on the court. That’s why I’m on the court, right? I want to make plays, make shots. I feel like I wasn’t trusted the past two games to be on the court. So, as a player, no matter what, I feel like it’s my job to go out there and compete at a high level. And guys know that if I’m struggling or not, you’ve still got to ride the wave.”

Hield isn’t having his best shooting season. Hield sits at 41 percent overall and 35 percent from 3-point range. Those marks are well below his career marks. It’s hard to say where things went wrong. Things obviously aren’t going well with Luke Walton. This is sad because I was ready for Hield to take the next step.

I wonder if the Kings will think about moving on from Buddy? The Kings have done dumber things. If this friction continues, something has to change. Hard to win games when you have players speaking out like this.
