PFF: “Running Backs Don’t Matter”

PFF (or otherwise known as Pro Football Focus) continues to make a fool of themselves. This company is on quite a roll. Their golden goose sucks and JJ Arcega-Whiteside is unplayable bad. There has been way more but those are just the ones that I have documented. This next take by PFF isn’t a new one by them but it’s to the point where it cannot be ignored. There is dumb and then there is ignorant. This next take is better defined by the latter:

K. Whatever that means PFF. This is example 839 why nobody takes this company seriously. The Ravens lead the league in rushing. They’re currently the best team in the NFL. Here’s a crazy idea, maybe Mark Ingram helps them. San Francisco is second in the league in rushing. They’re likely to be the one seed in the NFC. While they don’t have a defined number one back, Kyle Shanahan’s belief in the run game means everything. Seattle is third in the NFL in rushing. Could very well win it. 4th is the Vikings. Could you imagine Minnesota without Dalvin Cook? Yup, those running back things mean nothing.

This is just so ignorant and dumb. Running the ball is so important. It kills the clock, keeps the opponent off the field, and makes the opposing defense tired. The Dolphins, Jets, Falcons, Bears, and Bengals are the bottom 5 teams in rushing. All of them have bad or below average running backs. They all stink. Running backs matter you idiots.

Here’s a perfect example of PFF not getting it. A year ago, they loved David Montgomery. All because he broke some tackles in the Big 12 where nobody plays defense.

As a rookie, Montgomery is averaging 3.5 yards per carry and looks terrible. I wonder who told you he can’t play. All you had to do is watch him to know Montgomery was nothing special. PFF is too worried about whatever their numbers say. Not about actually scouting.

They still don’t get it. Here’s they’re latest take.

I’ll be the house that Travis Etienne isn’t the best running back in the 2020 NFL Draft. I’ll bet everything I own. You can’t make up how dumb this is.

PFF: “Etienne was awesome against Wofford!”

WTF are we doing here? You’re using tape against Wofford? That says everything you need to know about PFF. They’re defining Etienne as the best running back in 2019 because he beat up Wofford. So pathetic. For the record, it’s probably D’Andre Swift but I’ll take Cam Akers, JK Dobbins, Najee Harris or maybe even Jonathan Taylor as an acceptable answer. I’ll bet the house that Travis Etienne isn’t it.
