Will John Tomase Apologize For Fabricating The Mookie Betts Trade Rumors?

Stop us if you heard this before but John Tomase lied… again. Will Tomase apologize for fabricating the Mookie Betts is getting traded rumor? (NBC Boston Screengrab)

I tried to tell you. I really did. I tried so hard to tell you. While John Tomase and NBC Sports Boston tried to get everyone’s panties in a bunch and create fear-mongering rhetoric, I knew the truth. For months, Tomase and NBC Sports Boston have been pushing the Mookie Betts is getting traded narrative. These rumors started despite having no juice behind them and without the Red Sox even having a general manager. Today, the Mookie rumors were put to rest and NBC Sports Boston ran with their tails between their legs. It’s clear that Tomase lied again.

When they put this tweet out, I’m not sure I’ve ever laughed so hard.

My favorite part of the tweet was trying to pretend the rumors are real. “So the Red Sox will hang on to Mookie after all” This is sooooooo embarrassing. They are the ones the created the rumors in the first place. I’ll just show my tweet thread because it can’t be better summarized.

John Tomase was caught in another lie. So shocking. Once Jeff Passan wrote this in his latest column, NBC Sports Boston was forced to hide with their tails between their legs. They should be ashamed of themselves. Of course, the new column admitting it was a hoax wasn’t written by Tomase either.

“Multiple executives this week said they believe a potential trade involving 2018 American League MVP Mookie Betts is unlikely to happen (VIA ESPN). The Boston Red Sox, who are looking to cut payroll, instead are trying to move salary in the form of a pitcher — either David Price or Nathan Eovaldi. Which is all well and good, except that to do so, the Red Sox will need to include someone of value.”

Since the report from Passan came out, Tomase has gone silent. Another lie. So predictable. Will Tomase apologize for being a lying sack of shit? Of course, not. Well, I’ll hold him accountable. NBC Sports Boston should be ashamed they employ Tomase. This is now the 2nd time he’s just made something up and reported it as fact. After months of pushing the Mookie Betts is getting traded narrative, Tomase has been shoved into a locker for being a shitty journalist. Mookie Betts isn’t getting traded. Sorry for ruining your party full of lies.
