Chaim Bloom’s Prior Writing History Suggests The Red Sox Won’t Trade Mookie Betts

Chaim Bloom is the new Red Sox Chief Baseball Officer. The only sports team I’m really a psycho about is the Boston Red Sox. You bet your sorry ass if you didn’t think I would do my homework on Bloom. I broke down his introductory press conference for Pete’s sake. Yes, I’m a psycho Red Sox fan. A rational one but a crazy person. I’ve done my homework on Chaim Bloom. If you think he’s going to trade Mookie Betts, I would caution you that it feels rather unlikely based on Bloom’s prior belief system.

Chaim Bloom used to write for Baseball Prospectus. Yes, I went deep diving in on the Sox new GM. He once wrote an article titled: ‘Evaluating A-Rod: Is He Worth the Money in Today’s Market?‘. While the rest of the baseball community crushed the Rangers for giving Alex Rodriguez that huge contract, Bloom defended them. $252 million for Alex Rodriguez on the lowish* revenue Rangers? You can’t win that way! Well, Bloom claimed that ARod was worth every penny and in retrospect, he was right.

I encourage you to read that post. Based on that belief system, it seems almost impossible that the Red Sox will trade Mookie Betts. Bloom noted that it was essentially impossible to replace or recreate Rodriguez’s production on the same annual average salary. The same thing applies to Mookie Betts. There is no player to recreate what Mookie Betts does. It’s because he does everything. Mookie is a 5 tool player who epitomizes the definition. Gold glove defender, plus speed, hits for average, and power.

I hate to break it to the haters but it looks unlikely Mookie gets traded. Believe whatever you want in the news. I’ll trust the guy who is running the show. Based on his belief system, Mookie isn’t getting traded.
