5 Reasons Why AEW Events Put WWE Events To Shame

I have loved professional wrestling for literally as long as I can remember. Growing up in Anchorage, Alaska, there was not a whole lot to do. So, when my dad would come home from his squadron and plop down on the couch and watch Raw and Smackdown, I had to join in. It has been a part of me ever since. All there really was growing up WAS WWE. TNA was an under-the-radar company there for a little bit but there was only one true king and it was the big W. Naturally, I would attend live events, tapings of Raw/Smackdown, and have attended a PPV (2017 Royal Rumble). I always thought it couldn’t get better than going to a WWE event.

That was until I attended an AEW event. I was at the December 28th AEW Dynamite and Rampage tapings, and my mind was blown. From the moment I walked onto the floor of the 1st Bank Center in Broomfield, CO I knew this would be a special night (it also helps that Dynamite was one of the best shows of the year, IMO). So it got me thinking and I realized that if you have a choice of going to AEW events or WWE events, choose AEW. Don’t believe me? I’ll give you 5 reasons why.

1) The In-Ring Wrestling Is Simply Better

In the 2010s, WWE was not known for having iconic, 5-star matches. It was more storyline based and the wrestling in the ring was just not awesome. Now, the wrestling is better, yes. But it doesn’t touch AEW. AEW is LOADED with every kind of wrestling style you like, and have a bunch of guys and gals who do it well. If you are deciding on which show will deliver in the ring, AEW is your answer.

2) The Fans

I don’t think I have ever had a better time watching a live wrestling show than I did while at AEW Dynamite. You see the crown on TV but it pales in comparison to being there. That live crowd is ELECTRIC, giving as much energy towards the wrestlers as they are to perform for us. The chants, the huge pops to huge moves, and even the comradery in the stands. I had a handful of great conversations with the folks around me. WWE events are flooded with small children who scream and are annoying, AEW fans (while they can be annoying as well, this is the IWC were talking about here) are more grown up and let their feelings be heard. I couldn’t get enough.

3) Dasha Kuret

I am a firm believer that an announcer can make or break a show. If you have someone who lacks energy, power in their voice, or any sort of personality, it brings the product down. That isn’t the case with AEW as they have a gem with Dasha Kuret. Before the show started, in between breaks and any chance she got, she was talking with the crown through the mic and acknowledging the crowd. At WWE events, there is a lot of silence during breaks and before the show starts. It made a difference to this writer.

4) Tony Khan Hyping The Crowd

Say what you will about AEW boss Tony Khan, but before every show, he goes out and talks with the crown and get them hyped up before the tapings begin. You will NEVER see the folks at WWE go out before a taping and speak with the crowd. I am not here to say that WWE doesn’t care about its fans, but it feels like Khan really desires to have that connection with the fans and he makes an effort to do so. He could use some more practice cutting promos, but he got that arena hyped up right before the show went on the air.

5) The Presentation

Everything from the stage to where they have the commentary team to the fireworks to kick off the show, it all feels like a bigger deal at an AEW event. AEW will be changing its look come January, which feels slightly disappointing but if it happens to be better than what they have now I am all in.
