We may still be months away from the first college football game of the season, September 3rd, but it is never too early to take a look at some of the storylines heading into the season and try to come up with some bold predictions. In this post, we will predict the National Champion, four College Football Playoff teams, the Heisman Trophy winner, and many more. Let’s take a look at my 10 bold predictions for the 2022 College Football season.
The Coordinators leaving Clemson for new jobs, DC Brent Venables at Oklahoma and OC Tony Elliott at Virginia, will play a massive part in the story that will be the 2022 Clemson Tigers. Pairing that with major offensive struggles last season under DJ Uiagalelei has me weary on this team. I think DJ could turn it around and even become a darkhorse for a #1 overall pick even, but he has his work cut out for him. He needs to show confidence going into this season.
A major reason why Clemson misses out on the College Football Playoff is because they will not win the ACC, that honor goes to Wake Forest.
Stay with me.
Last year was arguably the best in school history, finishing 11-3 and winning the Gator Bowl over Rutgers 38-10. This team brings back a loaded roster and a talented QB in Sam Hartman. Last year, Hartman threw for 4,228 yards (7th best in the country) 39 TDs (T-5 in the country), and had a QBR of 79.7 (12th in the country). Hartman might be the best-kept secret in College Football, and with a lot of question marks surrounding Miami and Clemson, and with Kenny Pickett going pro, the ACC could be ripe for the taking for the Demon Deacons.
Will Anderson deserved more hype last season surrounding a Heisman Trophy run, and this year he not only will make his name known but beat out last year’s winner and teammate Bryce Young for the award. Anderson is undoubtedly the best defensive player in the country and will look to add on to a dominant 2021 season. I will go as far as to predict stats as well.
Will Anderson will become the first defensive player to win the award since Charles Woodson won the Heisman back in 1997.
This probably isn’t terribly bold because these are four of the best teams in the country, but I think that Ohio State being #1 and USC making the playoff could be considered bold-lite. Georgia lost a lot on the defensive side of the ball but they are still incredibly talented and well-coached. Alabama is, well, Alabama. I think two teams to look out for as fringe teams who would make a run are Florida and Oklahoma.
The 2022 College Football season culminates with a National Championship game between Ohio State and USC, which USC wins 37-31. USC avenge their 2016 embarrassing 52-6 loss by knocking off Alabama to make it to the National Championship. This team is loaded thanks to a legendary off-season, but can they win it all? I may sound biased seeing that this writer is a known USC fan, but I am seeing the board incredibly well right now and the signs are telling me to take USC +2500 to win it all.
