Welcome to Week 12 of the College Football season. The part of the season where people who don’t watch the games start to build false narratives based on evidence a box score tells them. Credit to those people because they’re one step ahead of the people who don’t watch the games period but still think they have something intelligent to say. Luckily you have Trey and if you have been following us from the start, you know the CFB season is the information process. The 2025 NFL Draft will be here before you know it and signs are being dropped. We just have to be smart enough to see them coming.
The 2025 NFL Draft is starting to develop some important themes. This week we have plenty to talk about so I’m just going to jump into things now.
The slate for the 2025 NFL Draft Stock Report notes for Week 12 includes – Texas vs. Arkansas, Utah vs. Colorado, Missouri vs. South Carolina, LSU vs. Florida, and Georgia vs. Tennessee.
Texas
I can’t wait to watch Quinn Ewers at the Combine. Obviously, these contender games coming up will be a huge indicator but I genuinely don’t think I need to see more of him in this Texas offense. 5.5 yards per attempt in this one. It’s just not good enough. On the road at Arkansas isn’t a push over game by any means. I just gotta have better than 5.5 yards per attempt against any team.
Although, I’m not totally sure it’s his fault. A lot of this is the eye candy offense. I talked about it plenty in the National Title stream with East Carolina (iykyk). It’s hard to throw the ball down the field when you’re asked to execute these gimmick bubble screens. Part of the problem is the offense. Part of the problem is Ewers continues to just feel a touch off.
The two touchdowns to Matthew Golden were nice. Those were also the only receptions Golden had in the game. Clearly has talent. Throws a hell of a ball. Feet have looked better in recent weeks but still far from ideal. He doesn’t drive the ball off the back foot enough. Pocket awareness is shaky. Runs into a few sacks. To his credit, he protected the ball. No turnovers, which was the key to winning this particular game. Was also on target more than the box score indicates. Fell victim to a few drops. The running back behind him is also mediocre causing a few drives to stall.
Blue and Wisner are nickel runners. Can’t build a real rushing attack with those guys. Injuries have killed Texas in the backfield. Think we’ve seen plenty of both to know by now that this isn’t anything worth diving into. Maybe can be something in the passing game from a pass catching stand point. Can’t be taken seriously beyond that.
Isaiah Bond gets a lot of the hype but probably shouldn’t. Maybe I’m way off here but what’s the gap between him and Silas Bolden? Bond will run fast. He also looks like a poor imitation of Jaylen Waddle. What’s the expectations here? How high you taking this guy? Four for 48. Okay? Now that did lead the team but if we’re talking Xavier Worthy draft range I think you smoke crack. His recruiting profile as a high end Bama guy is the best thing he’s got going for him. How good is he really? UTSA is the only 100 yard game on the season. Guy never wrecks the game and had chances to do so in this one.
I like Silas Bolden. Gunnar Helm is sure growing on me. Freshy Colin Simmons is gross in a good way. That pretty much covers it?
Arkansas
A few weeks ago we noted how Ja’Quindon Jackson hit a wall. They clearly tried to limit his workload in this one. Just 11 carries but was effective when given the rock. 5.1 yards per carry and scored his goal line opportunity. I’m not totally sure what he is yet beyond just a pure hammer. But the hammer element in his game works. No point in even calling him a former QB. A random person watching the game who doesn’t know that fact would never be able to guess it.
Xavian Sorey Jr. just pops off the screen. I’ve seen it before and don’t know how else to say it. Clearly has a different gear than the rest of his teammates. Landon Jackson is a nice contributor along the defensive line but Sorey sure covers up a lot of sins. Had two nice TFLs in this one. His 40 time compared to other linebackers should be in the green.
Utah
Poor Isaac Wilson. At least Zach Wilson was good at BYU. The other Wilson brother can’t even look passable in the Big 12. It’s hard to fathom that Utah is this bad. Cam Rising is broken and so is Utah, who were the preseason favorites to win this conference. Now they’re 4-6 with one win in conference.
Micah Bernard was exposed in this one. I’ve been trying to tell you that he’s an older college guy and we shouldn’t get overly hot and bothered by it. 11 carries for 20 yards of meh. I’m sure he would have looked better if the passing game got going but finally I think we can finally cross this name off the list.
Dorian Singer looked okay. Five receptions for 65 yards and a score. Still looks a bit small and slender. One catch went for forty yards accounting for most of the damage. Maybe this is a bad comp but he looks like a worse version of Kyren Lacy. Relies on getting open but isn’t overly special. Dez Fitzpatrick vibes? He will be given an opportunity but there will be no spriting to turn this card in.
Bernard and Singer both fumbled in this one not helping their cause.
Remember when I said I like this Lander Barton? Finding linebackers who can do stuff like this… they don’t grow on trees. He’s something… His brothers Jackson and Cody also play in the league. Lander to me looks like he has the best upside of his brothers.
Colorado
This was a walk in the park win for Colorado. This was about having elite players do what they do best. I’m not sure how much analyzing we need to do here. The Colorado haters are acting like Bears fans. They’ve predictably gone quiet. Shedeur was obviously good again. He’s entrenched himself into the QB1 conversation. I’m not sure what else there is to say that I haven’t already. Beyond the obvious reminder that all of the traits that I told you were instilled years ago are showing themselves now. Evaluate the evalutor. Click that link in the previous sentence from years ago and tell me what’s not been accurate years later. He’s shown you who he is. If you’re hating to hate, that’s a you problem.
The Heisman belongs to Ohtani. I don’t know how it’s even a debate. We saw plenty in this one. Nice pass break up, an interception on a deflection from a teammate, and even a rushing touchdown. Five receptions for 55 yards was a nice cherry on top too, I guess.
Given how high the snap counts are, it’s remarkable how well he’s playing. What’s more impressive is that I think one particular part of his game needs to be discussed. In hockey, there is a term for players being so skilled that they have a knack for drawing penalties. The only way to stop them is to commit a penalty. This is really a crib thing. He’s so instinctive. From the moment his mom picked him up off the crib he had it. It’s really the game within the game. He understands what his opposition is trying to do to him before the play even happens. He understands angles. The most impressive play I saw from Hunter in this game was while playing receiver. The play breaks down and he’s just trying to make something out of nothing. He maneuvered himself into position and drew a PI to keep the chains moving out of a nothing play. It’s stuff like that to make you realize we’re dealing with someone who is more alien than human. The team that turns the card in for Ohtani will sleep really well at night. It’s really as simple as that at this point. The team that picks him is hopefully smart enough to let him play on both sides of the ball.
Dallan Hayden stinks holy hell. I promised I wouldn’t talk about him anymore but now I feel like I need to give one more update that the guy just sucks. Four carries for six yards. He also looked completely lost in pass protection. The one sack was totally on him and he should be tested for being drunk during the game. Luckily Isaiah Augustave has emerged as a capable runner. Okay, now I’m done.
Big game for some of these other pass catchers too. Will Sheppard won two 50/50 balls for scores. LaJohntay Wester returned a kick and reeled in ten receptions. Both are starting to make names for themselves. Both very different players but both can very much play.
Missouri
I really don’t have much to say on the Mizzou front. South Carolina has capable corners and Theo Wease / Luther Burden did their part. More so good to see on the Wease part because we know Burden is a stud. Wease went for six and 85. Burden had eight for 69 and a score. Burden’s ability to make plays in the open field being the obvious separator between the two.
South Carolina
Raheim Sanders didn’t have the most efficient game but he passed the movement skills test. Big, fast, runs with power. 2.8 yards per carry isn’t ideal but thought he looked more than fine as a functional piece of the offense. Wasn’t the greatest game for Sanders but the power and speed element he has while being able to catch showed up when it mattered most. He’s very much in the mix for the top of this RB draft class.
More than anything, this game for the Cocks was a glimpse into the future. Got some flash plays by Nyck Harbor. LaNorris Sellers threw FIVE touchdowns. That with the obvious factor that he moves the chains with his legs. We’ve seen plenty already this year from rusher Dylan Stewart. If South Carolina continues to supplement their talent, this team can be scary in the coming years.
I know this is a post about the 2025 NFL Draft but if you’re keeping an eye on the future, all three of these guys more than deserve to be on the radar. The hype deserves to be louder than even radar…
LSU
Bradyn Swinson is going to be drafted fairly high. Probably not first round but he flashes. Didn’t get home in this one but they would be way worse on defense without him rushing. Which isn’t a high bar but he’s clearly a player.
The Swamp is a tough place to play and you knew Florida would come out with a burst being at home. That’s while coming off a bad, bad loss to Texas the week before. Plus getting their starting QB back. Florida was going to come to play. The problem is LSU should have been in the same boat after getting boat raced by Bama.
Garrett Nussmeier just isn’t turning that corner. I really want him too but this game was a bad sign. Just way too many mistakes without the high end to make up for it. The bone head throws drive you nuts if he’s not going to lead scoring drives on the high end. Settled for a lot of field goals and couldn’t make big plays we’ve seen in recent weeks.
The skill set hasn’t changed. Ball still comes out nice. He’s really good at making hard throws look easy. He was just way too off target in this one. No picks but could have easily thrown a few. Instead had a couple of fumbles mixed in there so he was still turning the ball over. I may have to apologize for throwing the Favre comps out there. If anything, it looks more like Derek Carr the more I see him.
Quickly on the rest of this stuff. Stock up for Aaron Anderson who made another big scoring touchdown drive. Mason Taylor got in on the action for 59 yards. Kyren Lacy can’t go a game without a drop. You’re just going to have to live with the drops because they keep coming. Guy gets open but there’s no way we can put him into the Nabers and Thomas category from last season. Shouldn’t be a round one guy.
Florida
Same thing with Sellers. You can’t talk Florida without bringing up DJ Lagway. This is a top 25 team with Lagway under center. As I said weeks ago, I have no idea why they wasted a single second on Graham Mertz. It’s games like this that make you optimistic about what’s to come. Florida isn’t much different than South Carolina. Young guys from recent recruiting classes are the talking point.
In terms of 2025 NFL Draft stuff, I’m not sure what there is to say. You can’t overanalyze things that aren’t there. Tyreak Sapp clearly impacted the game on the defensive side of things. Eight tackles including four TFLs. Also had a sack in this one. Caused problems for a vast majority of the game. This is a very capable offensive line LSU has too so this performance means something. 6-foot-3, 272, and looks like he can move around on the line. Three technique and can move inside on third down. Need to see more but this was a really nice showing.
The box score won’t really indicate this either but Desmond Watson is a damn problem. He clogs up so much space in the middle.
Georgia
I think I can confidently say that this was Carson Beck’s best game this year. I don’t think there is any doubt in that. 25/40 for 347 and two passing touchdowns. That’s not including the key touchdown run that really sealed the win. It’s the rushing that really opened the game up for Beck.
It’s a good reminder that regardless of the past struggles this year, this is a more than capable pure athlete. Hasn’t gotten enough credit for that part of his game. And he’s big and it should translate against bigger and stronger competition.
There is a key difference between this year and last year. I feel obligated to keep saying it. Bowers and McConkey. Are you seeing what those two guys are doing as rookies at the NFL level? They matter and a five year old can see that now. Georgia keeps dropping balls. This was a game where Beck really took over and looked like the guy we saw last year. Even when we see the bad version of Beck, he’s always calm and poised. Sometimes to a fault.
Being at home definitely helps but it should be noted that this was a game where Beck elevated the team. Can’t observe it any differently than that. Take Beck out of the run game and Georgia rushed for 74 total yards on 28 carries. His receivers are drop machines too. Not nearly the support of a past Georgia team where they run the ball and it takes four good throws to win. It’s not that team and Beck deserves his flowers for this one. No turnovers either, which have been his biggest red flag the last four weeks or so.
The throw to Oscar Delp also needs to be talked about for many reasons too. More than anything, it’s good to see Delp come alive. He was a ghost for essentially the entire season. Scored two touchdowns in this one and finally looked like a real player. Hopefully, he can keep building upon this now.
Stock down for Arian Smith. Bad hands and the fumble could have been a turning point. Fast but is he a real football player? I’m not convinced of that.
Stock up for Smael Mondon and Jalon Walker. Although I’m not sure I can give a stock up because I loved both before the game. Mondon was everywhere. He led the team in tackles and added a sack. This team is so loaded at linebacker it’s almost unfair. The fact that Mondon can return to the lineup and make those other guys look small says A LOT. Freak athlete who wrecks the game.
If you had to trust your life on a player getting a sack in a game, would you pick anyone other than Walker right now?
The only thing is I may have to add Chaz Chambliss into that conversation. He was so good that Georgia used him as a lead fullback on the Frazier TD. Chambliss added two sacks of his own. Maybe it’s time to start mentioning Chambliss as a real dude too.
Tennessee
Dylan Sampson deserves love. The SEC’s leading rusher did it again against a dangerous front. 19 carries for 101 yards and a score in this one. By the way, something that hasn’t happened a lot when these two teams played in the past. Tennessee has had problems running on Georgia when they match up. Clearly Sampson is on a different level because that narrative switched. He’s a real back and that’s obvious now.
Not a crazy game for James Pearce but no need to panic. His movement skills are all there. He clears for me.
Quick Hitters:
Saw bits and pieces of the Clemson win over Pitt. Pitt didn’t have Eli Holstein in this one but they held strong anyway. Desmond Reid is only 5-foot-8, 175 but is a factor with the ball in his hands. Pitt did a great job scouting getting this guy from Western Carolina. He’s a third down back if lucky at the NFL level but 10 receptions for 108 yards as a running back against Clemson shouldn’t be ignored. Again, not as big as an Abanikanda who they had in the past but clearly can play.
Gavin Bartholomew scored in this one. Big boy tight end that should be on the radar.
Antonio Williams had a monster game scoring twice and Cade Klubnik sealed the deal with a massive touchdown run. Both are worth monitoring as things continue to progress.
BYU shouldn’t be ranked and that team isn’t good. I don’t care what anybody says. Putting them in the playoff over a four loss SEC team would be an absolute joke. Sorry, not sorry.
