2025 AL Central Breakout Stars

You’re getting one of these posts every single day until we hit all of the divisions. As I said in the AL East post, we’ve had really good success with these in the past and the embed will direct you to our picks last year. Baseball is the weirdest sport on earth and every single year there are going to be breakout candidates that take huge leaps from the season before. Here are those breakout stars projections for the AL Central in 2025!

Chicago White Sox: Kyle Teel

Once upon a time, it was thought of as the “Big 4” in the Red Sox farm system. That number has been reduced by one after Kyle Teel was acquired in the Garrett Crochet trade. Teel is a former first round pick and regarded as a high-level catching prospect. The bat should be there. The actual catcher part of his game is to be determined. The good news is the White Sox suck and can afford to take their time with this and properly develop the player. I would imagine you will see him at some point because nobody is blocking his path at the MLB level.

Cleveland Guardians: Jhonkensy Noel

I feel obligated to make Noel my pick based on the fact that his nickname is “Big Christmas”. 6-foot-3, 250, and just hits tanks. Now, contact may not totally be on his side but maybe just maybe there is a crazy power hitter in there. AKA if Franmil Reyes actually turned into a success story? 13 homers in 67 games as a rookie isn’t nothing. Maybe a year two pop is coming and I hope that’s the case for entertainment purposes alone.

Detroit Tigers: Jace Jung

Josh Jung turned into a pretty good player for the Rangers. If the Tigers are going to start to turn the corner, they need Jace Jung to do the same thing. Jung is a former first round pick in 2022 out of Texas Tech and you guessed it… he plays third. As a rookie, there wasn’t much to write home about. -0.5 WAR and a 93 OPS+ with zero homers in 34 games. It’s time to be a real player now. We’ll see if it actually happens but his older brother should at least inspire some confidence a corner will be turned.

Kansas City Royals: Jac Caglianone

I might have jumped the gun here but I think this dude is legit. I might be a year or even two early on this one but I think the Royals really have something here. No big deal but he’s only hitting .500 in 14 at-bats this Spring. He was the 6th overall pick this past draft after smacking the hell out of the ball at the University of Florida. This is the Royals long term first baseman and don’t be surprised if he immediately impacts their team when the playoff race heats up.

Minnesota Twins: Austin Martin

It’s go time. If the Twins are going to be their money’s worth out of the José Berríos trade, Martin needs to come through. He was the only piece they got back in that trade. Martin was a big prospect coming out of Vandy but really didn’t do much after making his MLB debut last year (-1.0 WAR 89 OPS+). Time is running out. The guy is going to be heading into his age 26 season. It’s now or never and if the Twins are going to surprise, it starts here.
