We just went over the 2024 NFL Draft Stock Report notes for the Rose Bowl and Sugar Bowl. However, I still have a few things I want to go over from the other New Year’s games. The CFB Playoff was the star of the show, but I still think we learned some intriguing things from the other games. Let’s get right to it.
I don’t know who needs to hear this but Garrett Nussmeier is good. Better passer than Jayden Daniels. 31/45 for 395 yards, three touchdowns, and one pick. Wisconsin is a respectable defense too and they played two high the entire game preventing the over the top passing attack.
The fact that Nussmeier isn’t the rushing threat that Daniels is certainly helped them play that way. It just didn’t matter. Outside of a bad mistake, Nussmeier converted time and time again. I’m going to say something irresponsible, but I actually believe it. This is the closest thing to Brett Favre since the man himself. Little shorter than you want but he slings it and isn’t afraid. Throws a damn good ball and is a total gunslinger. Maybe he doesn’t win the Heisman like Daniels did but LSU’s passing attack for 2024 is nothing to worry about.
I’ve given up on trying to figure out who LSU likes at running back and I’ve stopped trying to figure it out. I imagine when it’s time to change that narrative someone will announce their presence.
Brian Thomas went insane. 8 receptions for 98 yards and two scores. He kinda feels like Terrace Marshall, but Thomas is bigger and a better threat with the ball in the air. Plus has those same downfield receiving ability skills. Tricky one but he has talent. Just not sure how twitchy he is. That’s going to matter here.
Ricardo Hallman. That’s all I want to talk about for Wisconsin. LSU can’t cover anybody so it wasn’t a surprise that the Badgers made this interesting. Hallman now has seven interceptions on the year. He was a beat in the Ohio State game too. Gotta have DBs that attack the ball and create turnovers. The one’s that have ball skills translate to the NFL level. How do you ignore what Hallman is doing? Plus, he’s athletic. If you took the Wisconsin helmet away and put on a better one, I think he’d still be a star and fit right in. I’m becoming a big fan.
Oregon blasted Liberty 45-6. I don’t know what more we can take from that game. Bo Nix dominated. Ditto for Bucky Irving. Tez Johnson is the one who went insane. Troy Franklin didn’t play. Johnson filled in that number one role just fine going for 11 receptions for 172 yards and a score. I just don’t know what you really do with this game. With NIL, the little guys are less powerful than ever. It is what it is. It’s just a different sport.
Iowa didn’t score again. Surprise!
Tennessee has their quarterback for next year…
Squirrel White is such an intriguing weapon for next year.
