2024 NFL Draft Grades: NFC East

Let’s have a talk. Just you and me. The 2024 NFL Draft is in the books. You can make the choice now. You can choose to read other people’s draft grades. You know, the grades where you get lied to and nobody has the balls to hand out anything lower than a C for any of the teams. OR you can read mine where I tell the truth. The choice is yours.

By the way, how come nobody grades Mel Kiper’s draft grades after the fact? I’ll happily stack up my resume compared to anybody else out there. It’s not a battle they will win based on past evidence. We’re starting things off with the NFC East. Let’s do this thing.

Dallas Cowboys: Grade C+

Round 1, Pick 29: Tyler Guyton, OT, Oklahoma
Round 2, Pick 56: Marshawn Kneeland, DL/EDGE, Western Michigan
Round 3, Pick 73: Cooper Beebe, OL, Kansas State
Round 3, Pick 87: Marist Liufau, LB, Notre Dame
Round 5, Pick 174: Caelen Carson, CB, Wake Forest
Round 6, Pick 216: Ryan Flournoy, WR, Southeast Missouri State
Round 7, Pick 233: Nathan Thomas, OL, Louisiana Lafayette
Round 7, Pick 244: Justin Rogers, DL, Auburn

I don’t think it was a terrible draft but I don’t think it will save Dallas’ season either. Credit to them for moving down and getting Cooper Beebe for free. Other than that, it’s pretty hard to fall in love with this class.

It’s a class littered with question marks. Guyton has potential but he’s still really raw. Kneeland played at Western Michigan against bad competition. Beebe has short arms and we have no idea if he can play center. Liufau was a huge reach in the third round based on the fact that he’s slow. Every pick after that likely won’t help them.

Dallas might have gotten two starters along the offensive line. That’s the only thing saving this draft. I’m just not sold any of these players are going to turn into studs.

New York Giants: Grade F

Round 1, Pick 6: Malik Nabers, WR, LSU
Round 2, Pick 47: Tyler Nubin, S, Minnesota
Round 3, Pick 70: Andru Phillips, CB, Kentucky
Round 4, Pick 107: Theo Johnson, TE, Penn State
Round 5, Pick 166: Tyrone Tracy Jr., RB, Purdue
Round 6, Pick 183: Darius Muasau, LB, UCLA

Is this a joke? How do you not take a single offensive lineman? Zero offensive lineman? Has this front office watched their team? It’s an F grade for that fact alone.

Good luck watching Daniel Jones get the ball to Malik Nabers. We know that’s going to end poorly. Odell 2.0 as we all look forward to the day he loses his mind and asks out. Congratulations on signing up for that.

The rest of the draft is whatever. They lost Xavier McKinney and are replacing him with Tyler Nubin. The Minnesota product has some ball skills but I’m not sold on him. He lacks speed and I don’t see any scenario where he’s a one man wrecking crew back there.

Darren Waller is basically retired. Good luck with the Theo Johnson cheese. Even if he turns into something, it’s going to take three years to figure out what he is. I do like the UCLA linebacker they picked by Tyrone Tracy is a waste of time. Converted wide receiver that this team will have no idea how to utilize.

This team feels destined for a last place finish.

Philadelphia Eagles: Grade A

Round 1, Pick 22: Quinyon Mitchell, CB, Toledo
Round 2, Pick 40: Cooper DeJean, CB, Iowa
Round 3, Pick 94: Jalyx Hunt, EDGE, Houston Christian
Round 4, Pick 127: Will Shipley, RB, Clemson
Round 5, Pick 152: Ainias Smith, WR, Texas A&M
Round 5, Pick 155: Jeremiah Trotter Jr., LB, Clemson
Round 5, Pick 172: Trevon Keegan, OL, Michigan
Round 6, Pick 185: Johnny Wilson, WR, Florida State
Round 6, Pick 190: Dylan McMahon, OL, NC State

I would have given the Eagles an A+ except for the fact that they threw their third round pick down the toilet. I don’t get the Jalyx Hunt pick. He’s a total project and is the only player ever taken from Houston Christian in draft history. The odds that pick works out is slim and Philly already has 800 pass rushers. It’s going to be a challenge to just carry him on the roster. Beyond that, this draft was a grand slam.

The secondary was the biggest need for this team and Philly got two good ones. Two that probably slipped further than they should have with the run on quarterbacks. Mitchell was a rockstar during the predraft process and DeJean should be the perfect chess piece to use back there. This Eagles team got way better with just those two additions.

But it wasn’t just those two guys. Philly was plugging away the whole draft. So much so that they collected a 2025 third, fourth, and fifth as part of trade downs. They still come away with an impressive class in the later rounds.

I’m a Will Shipley fan. A scat back that can help them in the return game and can really catch the ball. Then even found a way to add two weapons. Johnny Wilson just might be the perfect receiving tight end for them. Ainias Smith is the perfect slot receiver this team has been missing. Someone to pick up YAC yards that’s been missing from this offense.

They even found a way to bring Jeremiah Trotter Jr. back home. They didn’t reach for him either. The 5th round is where he belonged and there won’t be pressure on him to play right away with Devin White and Nakobe Dean in place.

Howie Roseman nailed it. I’m not sure how you can feel differently.

Washington Commanders: Grade B-

Round 1, Pick 2: Jayden Daniels, QB, LSU
Round 2, Pick 36: Jer’Zhan Newton, DL, Illinois
Round 2, Pick 50: Mike Sainristil, CB, Michigan
Round 2, Pick 53: Ben Sinnott, TE, Kansas State
Round 3, Pick 67: Brandon Coleman, OL, TCU
Round 3, Pick 100: Luke McCaffrey, WR, Rice
Round 5, Pick 139: Jordan Magee, LB, Temple
Round 5, Pick 161: Dominique Hampton, S, Washington
Round 7, Pick 222: Javontae Jean-Baptiste, DL, Notre Dame

Jayden Daniels terrifies me. He wouldn’t have been my pick. The Ben Sinnott and Brandon Coleman picks were also insane reaches. However, I really like some of the things they did. Getting Newton and Sainristil were two of my favorite players in the draft. Both should be impact guys on the defense.

Some of these late round picks have a chance to pop too. LMC… does it have a ring to it? Either way, that’s a nice target for the new quarterback. Jordan Magee has some much needed range for the linebacker room.
