2024 Fantasy Football Breakout Candidates: Week 12

We are approaching the end of the of 2024 fantasy football regular season with only a few weeks left! Who are some breakout candidates heading into Week 12 of the 2024 NFL Season? Let’s explore a couple deep cuts — plus and under-performing running back — heading into the week!

Tommy DeVito, QB, Giants

In nine games last year, DeVito threw for 1,101 yards for eight touchdowns and three interceptions while tallying 196 yards and one score on the ground as well. He’s on this list because it’s his first game of the season … and he’s going up a below-average Buccaneers secondary. Is he startable option? Unless the rest of your quarterback room is on fire. Though that doesn’t exempt him from being on a “potential breakout candidates” list … just for this week.

Ameer Abdullah, RB, Raiders

Both Alexander Mattison and Zamir White are unlikely to play in Week 12, opening up Abdullah to get lead reps in the backfield. The Broncos have been a pretty good defense against opposing running backs this season, but one thing they’ve struggled with is accounting for the running back in the pass game. Denver’s found their groove with Bo Nix behind center and could take an early lead over a below average Raiders defense, which could lean into Abdullah’s strengths if the Raiders offense *gulp* has to air it out. He has only finished as a top-50 running back just twice this season, which is where I think he will be Week 12.

Aaron Jones, RB, Vikings

It’s not that Aaron Jones has been bad, but he hasn’t been efficient. He’s cooled off since starting the season hot. Over the last four weeks, Jones is averaging just 3.5 yards per carry, including 1.6 yards per carry after contact, netting only two top-30 finishes in standard formats. Thankfully for Jones, he will be going up against a defense placing in the bottom-five in yards per carry and in the bottom-eight in yards allowed per game against opposing running backs. Jones also showed last season that he gets better as the year goes on, but that hasn’t quite translated in 2024. Will that change?
