2024 College Football Best Games of the Week: Week 4

The 2024 College Football season is finally starting to pick up. Fans are beginning to get a handful of ranked matchups every week. Last week’s slate of games had its fair share of statement games and upsets. Now, as we get further along in the season, the ranked matchups carry more and more weight for the College Football Playoff. Here, are the top five 2024 College Football games of the week for week 4.

Honorable Mentions: Michigan St @ Boston College, Georgia Tech @ No. 19 Louisville, TCU @ SMU, NC State @ No. 21 Clemson

5) No. 13 Kansas St @ BYU (10:30 p.m. ET, ESPN)

Kansas State is fresh off the heels of a dominant win over then No. 20 Arizona. The Wildcat offense has been electric to start the year. Quarterback Avery Johnson has 490 yards, six touchdowns, and one interception on the year. Running back DJ Giddens has been effective on the ground averaging a whopping 6.6 yards per carry. However, this dynamic offense might run into some issues against a BYU defense only giving up 14 points per game. The Cougar offense can put up some points as well with exciting QB Jake Retzlaff with 841 yards, 113 rushing yards and seven touchdowns. This will be a great game to cap off a solid Saturday of college football.

4) No. 24 Illinois @ No. 22 Nebraska (8 p.m. ET, Fox)

This game is the marquee matchup on Friday, as fans get a ranked v. ranked matchup. Both of these teams were not on the preseason top 25 AP poll. Though both entered unbeaten at 3-0, with Illinois is 3-0 beating then-No. 19 Kansas while Nebraska smushed Colorado. Plus, both teams have nice passing attacks and strong defenses. Nebraska’s exciting true Freshman quarterback Dylan Raiola will have another test in front of him to continue his terrific year. On the other hand, Illinois senior wide receiver Pat Bryant can be the X-factor and continue his impressive season. This is a great ranked matchup that will propel the winner into some serious top-20 talks.

3) No. 12 Utah @ No. 14 Oklahoma St (4 p.m. ET, Fox)

We have our second Big 12 matchup of the year, and it is with two of the best teams in the conference. The UCF vs TCU matchup delivered an exciting game last week, so hopefully, this one will as well. Utah quarterback Cam Rising’s status for Saturday is still up in the air. Utah will need him if they want to keep up with star running back Ollie Gordon ll and the rest of the Oklahoma State offense. These teams are both on the fringe of being considered real college football playoff teams. However, whoever comes out on top has real legitimacy when it comes to being ranked inside the top-10.

2) No. 11 USC @ No. 18 Michigan (3:30 p.m. ET, ABC/ESPN+)

This can be a real statement win for either team. USC can thrust themselves into real contender talks as for the first year in a while they might have a capable defense to back up a strong offense. Alternatively, Michigan could use a win to calm down the panic after a head coaching change before the season and a demoralizing loss to Texas two weeks ago. Michigan has named Alex Orji the starting quarterback on Saturday after quarterback Davis Warren has struggled for three weeks. Quarterback Miller Moss and the Trojans will have a chance to get another ranked win in just their third game of the season. This should be a fun matchup in the new Big Ten conference after the recent realignment.

Our Best Game of the Week: No. 6 Tennessee @ No. 15 Oklahoma (7:30 p.m. ET, ABC/ESPN+)

This should be the best college football game on Saturday. Tennessee looks like the real deal and now they get to prove it against a talented Oklahoma team. Both of these teams are undefeated and ranked in the top 15. Oklahoma finally looked impressive against Tulane last week. Quarterback Jackson Arnold had a combined 266 yards of offense and three touchdowns. Oklahoma flashed some semblance of what their offense was projected to be before the season, though even a great offense might not be enough to win a shootout against the juggernaut offense of Tennessee. The Volunteers have averaged 63 points in their first three games. Quarterback Nico Iamaleava is in a perfect position to notch his first huge win of the season and add to his Heisman case on Saturday.
