The loaded college football week 5 slate delivered with multiple great games. Also, last week was an overall success as I went 2-1 on best bets and 2-0 on honorable mentions. The pick that missed was the under in the Oklahoma/Auburn game as it went over by three points. There were 24 points scored in the fourth quarter including a pick-six with four minutes left which was unfortunate for the under. Now, the 2024 CFB week six slate is filled with plenty of incredible conference matchups both historic and new after realignment. Also, there was a fair amount of movement in the top 25 rankings after last week’s games. Finally, here are my 2024 CFB best bets for week 6.
*All lines are taken from Draft Kings and are accurate as of 3 p.m. ET on October 4
Overall: 2-1
Honorable Mentions: 2-0
Honorable Mentions: Ohio State/Iowa Over 45.5, -110, USC -9 Spread, -110
I like this game because Navy has been great this year and Air Force has disappointed. Navy is 4-0 including a win against a strong Memphis team. They are averaging a whopping 46 points per game. The Midshipmen are running an elite triple option this year and their passing game can do some damage this season. On the other hand, Air Force just got gashed on defense against Baylor and Wyoming in back-to-back games.
This rivalry game could be a hard-fought matchup and there is always upset potential. However, Navy has lost their last four games in this series so I think now is the time they end that streak. I’m going to side with the better team and I believe there is a chance the Midshipmen run up the score in this rivalry game. This pick is my best bet in week 6.
Indiana has been one of the most surprising teams in the 2024 CFB season. Now, the Hoosiers take on a struggling Northwestern team in week six. Indiana’s offense has been one of the best in all of college football through five weeks. Head coach Curt Cignetti, who is the former JMU head coach, has had the Hoosiers firing on all cylinders on both sides of the ball.
Indiana is 4-1 ATS this season and I think that continues in week 6 as I don’t see the trap game potential at Northwestern. The Wildcats are at home but they will not have significant home-field advantage as their main stadium is under reconstruction. Overall, Indiana’s offense will be too much for Northwestern and the No. 23 ranked team will continue their fantastic season.
I was going to have USC spread against Minnesota as one of my main three bets in week six. However, I picked them last week so I decided to get some new faces in here. Now, I will take a red-hot Iowa State team to cover the points at home. Baylor has played tough against Utah, Colorado, and BYU, who are all good teams. However, I think their back-to-back late-game losses have taken a toll on the Bears. I just do not know how much fight they have left which is not good because Iowa State has looked great.
The Cyclones’ defense has been smothering opponents and I think the Baylor offense will be another victim. Also, QB Rocco Becht and RB Abu Sama lll have been solid this year in carrying this Cyclones’ offense. I expect Iowa State to win the turnover battle and their defense will be able to suffocate this Baylor offense. I just hope Iowa State will have enough juice to put up over 20 points at home to solidify the cover. These are my 2024 CFB best bets for week six.
