We are officially through five weeks of the 2023 NFL season. You know what that means: It’s time to overreact to everything we saw! Here are our Week 5 overreactions!
Ja’Marr Chase is the first receiver to break 2,000 yards and the Bengals are winning the Super Bowl.
Joe Burrow is back and better than ever. Ja’Marr Chase is the best and most dominant receiver in the NFL and will do what no receiver has ever done: Break the 2,000-yard mark. He’s also projected to break Marvin Harrison‘s single-season catch record, which he will do as well. The Bengals offense will be even better when Tee Higgins returns and Joe Burrow will go to his third straight AFC Championship. Then, they’ll take care of business in the Super Bowl.
Jordan Love stinks.
My Packers pick is going to be wrong. I didn’t expect the world but I really thought he was going to be better than this. How could he not be after sitting for three years and learning behind Aaron Rodgers. That’s a luxury 90 percent of guys never get. He’s still terrible. Add the Packers to the list of teams that need a QB.
A storm is on the horizon. The 2024 Quarterback Class is stacked with talent. At the same time, an absurd number of teams may be in line to draft a quarterback.
The quarterback-needy teams include the Atlanta Falcons, New York Giants, New England Patriots, Chicago Bears, Las Vegas Raiders and Tampa Bay Buccaneers. That does not even include the potential of a team like the Minnesota Vikings or Dallas Cowboys moving on from a veteran who needs a new contract. Furthermore, the Washington Commanders, Tennessee Titans or Green Bay Packers could waive the white flag on their current young quarterback.
We have not even considered the possibility of a veteran retiring either. At the end of the season, situations will change and performance will fluctuate, but we have already found 11 teams that could justify selecting a quarterback with six of those landing spots feeling fairly likely. The record for quarterbacks selected in the first round is six. The 2024 draft class could meet that number and possibly eclipse it, with prospects Caleb Williams, Drake Maye, Quinn Ewers, Michael Penix Jr., Bo Nix, J.J. McCarthy and possibly Shedeur Sanders, should he declare.
Is it time for the Vikings to tank?
Justin Jefferson, arguably the best wide receiver in the NFL, got placed on injury reserve Tuesday due to a hamstring injury suffered Sunday. The Vikings also dropped to 1-4 after a 27-20 loss and Kirk Cousins is in the final year of his contract. Could it be time for Kwesi Adofo-Mensah’s “competitive rebuild” to come into effect? This team went from the worst good team in 2022 to perhaps the best bad team, but it might be time.
What are you overreacting to from Week 5? Let us know in the comments!
