2023 Fantasy Football Breakout Candidates: Week 6

Each week, we discuss potential fantasy football breakout candidates coming off rough weeks or a rough string of games that are due for success! As we approach the one-third mark of the 2023 NFL season, let’s discuss a few of our Week 6 candidates. But first, how’d we do in Week 5?

(Note: Jahmyr Gibbs was also on this list, but strained his hamstring in practice Friday and did not play.)

Very solid week! Let’s build off it! Now let’s jump into our Week 6 breakout candidates!

Chris Olave, WR, Saints

Olave has posted just one week where he’s finished as a top-25 receiver and has recorded just three touches for 16 yards over the past two weeks. He did find the end zone last week, but the lack of touches sticks out. He’s too talented of a receiver for that to continue, so I’m expecting positive regression from the second-year Saints wideout in Week 6, even though he’ll be up against a Texans secondary who’s punched above their weight this season.

Dak Prescott, QB, Cowboys

Prescott’s had … a shaky start to the season. He’s barely a top-25 quarterback in most formats and hasn’t had a week where he’s finished above 17th. He’s coming off a disastrous week against San Francisco, where he threw for only 153 yards (on 24 attempts) and turned the ball over three times. While the Chargers are coming off a bye, they have a bottom-five secondary and have been forgiving to fantasy quarterbacks this season. I expect that to hold true again Monday.

Rhamondre Stevenson, RB, Patriots

It’s been a disappointing season for Patriots running back Rhamondre Stevenson and, frankly, the Patriots offense. He had just eight touches for 24 yards last week and has recorded just 3.4 yards per touch this season after 5.2 in 2022. He’ll have a better matchup Sunday against the Las Vegas Raiders, who are No. 25 in rush EPA per play defensively and No. 24 in success rate allowed on the ground. Mac Jones has been a disaster this season, so perhaps the Pats decide to be more creative with how they utilize Stevenson–arguably their best skill position player–to ease the pressure off Jones? Time will tell.

D’Onta Foreman, RB, Bears

The Bears are currently in a running-back-by-committee situation and Foreman could be the lead back in Week 6 with Khalil Herbert banged up with an ankle injury and Roschon Johnson still in concussion protocol. The Vikings have been a middle-of-the-pack run defense this season, but Foreman could see plenty of opportunity this weekend after recording just seven touches for 24 yards in the season opener.
