2022 College Football Best Games of the Week: Week 7

After a brief hiatus last week, we are back to our regularly scheduled programming. Every week, I will be bringing you the must-see games in the world of college football and boy do we have a stacked Saturday slate ahead of us. Ranked games galore, some possible home upsets, and plenty more. If there was ever a Saturday to just sit at home, have a few adult beverages, and watch football, this is that Saturday. Let’s preview the best games of the week for Week 7 of the college football season!

Honorable Mention: No. 19 Kansas at Oklahoma, No. 15 NC State at No. 18 Syracuse, No. 8 Oklahoma State at No. 13 TCU

5) No. 16 Mississippi State at No. 22 Kentucky (7:30 p.m. ET, SEC Network)

We start our list of the best games of the college football weekend with an underrated quarterback duel between Mississippi State’s Will Rogers and Kentucky’s Will Levis. Rogers won’t get the national attention he deserves, mostly because he plays in the SEC which hosts guys like Bryce Young, Hendon Hooker, the aforementioned Levis and others, but there might not be a better signal caller right now than Rogers. He hasn’t thrown an interception in his last three games and has 22 touchdowns on the year to just three picks. Levis will look to take advantage of a Bulldogs defense that is 55th in the nation. I don’t expect much from either run game, which means we are in for a slugfest at quarterback.

4) No. 4 Clemson at Florida State (7:30 p.m. ET, ABC)

The Clemson offense has FINALLY been finding rhythm of late. It started back with the Wake Forest game and since then, this squad, led by D.J. Uiagalelei (yes, I did Google how to spell his name), seems to be firing on all cylinders. What could throw a wrench into this game is Jordan Travis. If he can get this offense off to a hot start and connect on those short to mid-range throws, this offense could really start moving along. The Florida State defense can do enough to slow down Clemson, but can the offense keep up is the question.

3) No. 7 USC at No. 20 Utah (8:00 p.m. ET, FOX)

This USC team really leaves folks scratching their heads sometimes. At times, this offense looks as good as anyone in the country. But they have also fallen inconsistent and left plenty of points out there. To their credit though, they are off to their first 6-0 start since 2006. USC is plus-15 in turnover margin and No. 1 in the country in sacks, but that won’t mean much unless they can stop this run game of Utah. If the Utes can get the ground game going, this could be a long night for the Trojans. This has trap game written all over it for USC.

2) No. 10 Penn State at No. 5 Michigan (12:00 p.m. ET, FOX)

The top two games on this list of the best games of the week for college football are doozies. Never mind the fact that this Penn State coaching staff doesn’t realize Sean Clifford stinks, their run game makes up for his faults. True freshman Nicholas Singleton was the lead back two weeks ago against Northwestern and showed why he is a future Big Ten stud, averaging over four yards a carry and nabbing a touchdown. The Penn State run defense has been stellar, but they haven’t faced anyone the caliber of Michigan. This will be a good, old-fashioned Big Ten battle decided on the ground. Michigan has not looked good the last few weeks, but they have a great chance here to rebound with a strong showing against a top-ten team.

Our Best Game of the Week: No. 3 Alabama at No. 6 Tennessee (3:30 p.m. ET, CBS)

This, on paper, is the game of the year so far in college football. You have an Alabama team that showed signs of vulnerability last week in a close win over Texas A&M. Bryce Young is hopeful to be back this week but won’t be at 100 percent, as Young is apparently on a “pitch count” at practice this week. If Young isn’t at 100 percent, they can lean on running back Jahmyr Gibbs and an offensive line that is playing its best football of the year so far. But it won’t be easy.

Tennessee might be back, folks. Quarterback Hendon Hooker is bringing Tennessee back to relevancy for the first time in what feels like decades. This offense is explosive and can score in bunches, which is bad news for the Alabama defensive backs who have looked shaky the last few weeks. If Tennessee can come out of the gates hot and hang somewhere around 14 or more in the first quarter, they have a real chance to capture, arguably, their biggest win in program history. If you only watch one game this week, you cannot miss Alabama at Tennessee.
