Once again the Los Angeles Rams enter the draft without a first round pick. They haven’t had one since they drafted Jared Goff… except this year he’s no longer under center. It’s the Matthew Stafford show and the 2021 NFL Draft is the last chance to turn this iteration of the Rams into a winner. Let’s head inside the war room.
- Round 2: No. 57 overall
- Round 3: No. 88 overall
- Round 3: No. 103 overall
- Round 4: No. 141 overall
- Round 6: No. 209 overall
- Round 7: No. 252 overall
The Rams did well to salvage their draft a year ago without a first round pick. They can do so again thanks to that extra comp pick.
The Rams could use a middle linebacker at some point. Sure, Micah Kiser, Kenny Young, and Troy Reeder are… wait… who? Jamin Davis at Kentucky could be an answer to those problems. Davis is a big-time riser. He can sort of do everything and has range to cover ground the Rams need. It doesn’t have to be Davis but at some point, this is an area of need.
Some sort of interior offensive lineman would be a smart play. The David Edwards Jamil Demby combo isn’t it. Wyatt Davis at Ohio State would be a heck of a play if he’s on the board in the third round. Matthew Stafford isn’t the most durable quarterback in NFL history. Getting him protection has to be on the to do list.
The Rams also lost major help in the back end. John Johnson and Troy Hill both skipped town. Shakur Brown at Michigan State could be around in the third round. Maybe Jamar Johnson instead at safety.
