2021 NFL Draft War Room: Arizona Cardinals

2021 NFL Draft
The 2021 NFL Draft could be a pivotal turning point for the Arizona Cardinals franchise. Let’s head inside their war room! (Mark Humphrey/AP)

The Arizona Cardinals are in such a weird spot heading into the 2021 NFL Draft. They’re somehow a team on the rise that could easily be a last place team in the NFC West? I guess that’s just the nature of the beast. Arizona continues to improve as we wait for them to get over the hump. The draft could be the kickstart they need. Let’s head inside the war room!

  • Round 1, pick 16 (No. 16 overall)
  • Round 2, pick 17 (No. 49 overall)
  • Round 5, pick 16 (No. 160 overall)
  • Round 7, pick 16 (No. 243 overall)
  • Round 7, pick 20 (No. 247 overall)

Not a ton of draft ammo to work with here. The trades of Rodney Hudson and DeAndre Hopkins whip out two of those picks.

Here me out. Did you know that Chase Edmonds is set to open the season as the starter? I know… that happened somehow. Kenyan Drake signed with the Raiders this offseason but Arizona just quietly didn’t find his replacement. Is this the landing spot for Najee Harris?

I don’t know how high Harris goes in the draft. Pick 16 seems a little rich. Maybe they can trade down a few spots and collect necessary equity they’re missing from previous deals. There’s no denying Najee is a perfect fit here. If the Cardinals want to make this offense elite, adding a talent like Harris is the way to go.

Kyler Murray, DeAndre Hopkins, and Najee Harris? Oh, AJ Green and Christian Kirk too? C’mon, that’s sexy right there. Harris tops my list of running backs heading into the 2021 NFL Draft.

Here’s the thing; why stop there? There’s two clear holes on this offense. Najee Harris takes care of one of those holes. Pat Freiermuth, the Penn State tight end, could take care of the other area of need. Is Arizona really going to try to make Maxx Williams a thing? We know that shit isn’t going to work. Freiermuth is the other heralded tight end prospect outside of Kyle Pitts. It’s something the Cards should probably consider.

The Cardinals lost Patrick Peterson? Why is no one talking about this? Load up on corners later in the draft!
