The 2021 MLB All-Star Game Uniforms Are Atrocious
Did the most-hated commissioner of the major sports top himself again? Somehow, Rob Manfred has done exactly that. His constant tinkering with every facet of the game continues to grind gears, but his latest stunt, the addition of the worst All-Star Game uniforms ever (no exaggeration), has lowered his approval rating yet again.
Up until this year, the All-Stars would wear their own uniforms. It was clean and the uniforms would change depending on which league was at home or on the road. This state of affairs never presented any issues, but for some reason, Manfred had to go and mess it up.
The new uniforms were unveiled on June 24th to utter disappointment. The National League’s uniforms consist of a plain white two-button shirt with each team’s initials on the left side of the chest overlapped by the team logo. The American League version is the same but in navy blue.
The hats worn are all in navy blue with each team logo in red and white. These are not as problematic as the rest of the uniforms, but they are still bland and boring.
Regardless, gone are the days of wearing original team uniforms for the midsummer classic, instead replaced by two teams wearing what look like sad attempts at batting practice jerseys.
The league is also attempting to create some sort of identity for having the All-Star Game take place at Coors Field in Colorado. The star stamped onto the side of the hat I guess represents the Rockie Mountains in some way. They need something to display the location of the game as it was quickly changed from Atlanta to Denver, but the result is rushed and lame. Too bad.
