2020 NFL Draft War Room: New Orleans Saints

2020 NFL Draft

The New Orleans Saints love ending their season in heartbreaking fashion. The Minnesota miracle turned into the non-pass interference call, which turned into Kyle Rudolph TD in overtime. The window to win with Drew Brees is CLOSING if it hasn’t closed already. The 2020 NFL Draft is a big one for the Saints that need one last punch to cap off another title with Brees. Let’s dive into their 2020 NFL Draft war room!

The Saints have a limited number of draft picks. They are down some picks after trading up for Erik McCoy and CJ Gardner-Johnson last year. Both picks worked out so Saint fans can’t complain. New Orleans has no 2nd or 7th round pick this year but everything else is intact. 5 picks total for New Orleans this year.

The Saints hold the 24th pick in the first round. It’s actually hard to find an obvious need on the roster. The offensive line is very good. The 2nd receiver spot was taken care of after signing Emmanuel Sanders. The defense is talented and has a lot of depth. I don’t know if the Saints are thinking this way but they could be looking to draft the Drew Brees replacement. Maybe they like Jordan Love or Jacob Eason. If they are thinking that way, the roster they have built makes it easier to go that route.

New Orleans should really be in best player available mode. Well, every team should be on draft day but it really applies to the Saints. What if they said, screw it, let’s move up for Henry Ruggs III. Adding a deep threat to go with Michael Thomas would be SCARY.

How about someone like Jaylon Johnson in the third round. New Orleans lost Eli Apple in free agency so Johnson would fit right into that spot. Johnson is a thin corner but he has a frame similar to Apple. The former Utah product has 6 interceptions the past two seasons.
