2020 NFL Draft War Room: Indianapolis Colts

The Indianapolis Colts won’t have a splashy 2020 NFL Draft after they traded away their first round pick for DeForest Buckner. To me, that says Indianapolis doesn’t really like any of the quarterbacks enough that would have otherwise been available at 13. Landing Buckner isn’t a terrible alternate reality. The Colts will need to hit on their other picks to make the 2020 NFL Draft a success. Let’s dive into their 2020 NFL Draft War Room.

The good news is the Colts still have 8 picks in this draft. Two picks in the 2nd round which sit at 34 and 44 is where Indy can make their money. The Colts can thank the Redskins for that first pick. Indy’s 3rd round pick sits at 75 so the Colts still have value picks even after landing Buckner.

I think Zack Baun could be the pick here. Chris Ballard has taken these hybrid linebackers before. Ben Banogu and Kemoko Turay are recent examples. I think Baun fits the Colts. Baun stands at 6-foot-3, 238 that can stand up as an outside linebacker and rush the passer. He could be an option at 34 or 44. Baun needs to be a standup linebacker. Otherwise, he will just get swallowed up at the NFL level. The Colts zone scheme could make his style work.

The other place I think the Colts could go is wide receiver. It’s a deep receiver draft so why not go for one here? TY Hilton needs a sidekick. Parris Campbell is a burner but I’m not sure the Colts have a defined role for him yet. Denzel Mims might end up being a target. He would give the Colts someone who has height, weight, and speed that Indy doesn’t really have at the position.

The third round is probably where the Colts look for that quarterback. Could Jacob Eason be a target? Who knows what Chris Ballard is looking for. Still, that 3rd round range would give the Colts a 3rd quarterback to develop. Philip Rivers doesn’t have more than 2 years in him anyway.
