The Cleveland Browns are going to do their due diligence on every quarterback option heading into this offseason. Mary Kay Cabot of Cleveland.com has reported that the Browns have set their sights on Tyrod Taylor.
“Taylor, who could be released by the Bills because of his big upcoming payday, will be on the Browns’ radar if they can’t pull off a trade for Patriots quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo, whom sources have told cleveland.com is a top target”.
Cleveland is expected to be one of many teams expected to chase after Jimmy Garoppolo. If Cleveland does not land the Patriots backup quarterback, Taylor is a nice plan B. The Taylor connection could be the cause of Cleveland hiring former Bills quarterback coach David Lee.
If the Bills do not release Tyrod Taylor this offseason, it would lock in $30.75MM in total guarantees. No one is going to pay that, especially a Bills team that is having some cap issues.
The Browns also hold the 1st and 12th overall picks in the 2017 NFL Draft. They could select a quarterback via the draft as well.
