Beloved NBA guard Alex Caruso has inked a four-year, $37 million deal with the Chicago Bulls, as first reported by Adrian Wojnarowski.
I’m not really sure I understand this one, to be honest. Caruso is no doubt a good defensive player and a solid rotational guard/wing, but many have been quick to call him overrated. His 6.4 points, 2.9 rebounds, and 2.8 assists per game certainly don’t scream that the former Laker was worth nearly $9 million a year. His effort and ability on the defensive end are unquestionably good, and if that was what the Bulls were looking for, then so be it. Last season, the 27-year-old held opponents to 42.8% shooting from the field.
Caruso’s now former coach Frank Vogel said in May that the guard was worthy of All-Defensive team nods.
“I think it has to be worth mentioning that he has to be considered for an All-Defensive Team with the way he does everything on that side of the ball. To see him dominate on the defensive end, and take control of our offense and play on both sides just proves his value to us.”
VIA Bleacher Report
Caruso’s presence is certainly felt on the defensive end – the Lakers held opponents to 102.2 points per 100 possessions when the former Texas A&M Aggie played, according to NBA.com/stats – but was it worth the steep price tag? Only time will tell.
