YouTube Star Markiplier to Direct ‘Iron Lung’ Movie

Famous YouTube celebrity Markiplier, otherwise known as Mark Fischbach, is taking on a project outside of his usual field of work. The internet star will be taking a seat in the director’s chair for Iron Lung, a film based on the sci-fi horror video game of the same name. The project is being self-financed as production begins in Austin, Texas.

What Exactly is Iron Lung About?

The original video game told the story of a universe where all the stars and planets died, leaving humans to live only in spaceships. The game takes a more horrific turn as the player character struggles to survive in the failing Iron Lung spaceship.

The game clearly resonated with Markiplier, with the YouTuber releasing several videos about the game. Aside from just playthroughs, he also released lore videos and other videos talking about the game in general.

Why Make a Movie?

Markiplier has been a huge fan of horror games for years now — the evidence of which can be found all over his YouTube channel. With nearly 35 million subscribers his channel alone, Markiplier has the audience and reach most YouTubers merely dream about. His success on YouTube has also translated into financial success, allowing him to self-finance this project in the first place.

This also isn’t the first project the creator has undertaken. In the past, he has created works like the Children’s & Family Emmy Award-nominated YouTube Original Series In Space with Markiplier. However, Iron Lung is a much more ambitious project than anything he’s worked on before.

Regardless, Markiplier’s passion for this game will likely translate well into this film adaptation, though it will be a while before we can actually see this come project to life.
