Yoshinobu Yamamoto Explains Why He Joined Dodgers

Los Angeles Dodgers pitcher Yoshinobu Yamamoto explains his reason for joining the Dodgers over the New York Mets, New York Yankees, and other teams.

Yamamoto was one of the biggest free agents in the MLB offseason, behind the Japan National team and new Dodgers teammate Shohei Ohtani, and was getting looks from every time in the league.

Yoshinobu Yamamoto was looking for a contract in the nine-digit range, a high mark for someone who had not played in the Majors.

In the end, Yamamoto agreed to a 12-year, $325 million deal with the Dodgers over other similar offers from the Mets and Yankees.

“I really got the impression that the Dodgers were very successful for a very long time,” Yamamoto recently told Joel Sherman of The New York Post. “And just that the atmosphere with the organization was really good.”

The Dodgers organization has been one of the better-performing teams in the league in recent history. They have been in the MLB playoffs the last 11 consecutive seasons and have made the World Series three times since 2017 and won the 2020 World Series.

The Dodgers have added many key players this offseason, including the addition of Ohtani, Tyler Glasnow, Teoscar Hernandez, re-signing Clayton Kershaw, and other moves.

Yoshinobu Yamamoto sees a team with a good performance history and making moves that could help the team win a World Series in the near future. However, many are wondering if Dave Roberts being manager of the team will either help the Dodgers or hold them back.

The Dodgers are currently one of the favorites to win the 2024 World Series with the additions they have made this offseason.

Yoshinobu Yamamoto and the Dodgers begin their spring training on Feb. 22nd when they face off against NL West division rivals San Diego Padres.
