For as big of a freak as DK Metcalf is, he seems to be flying really under the radar in terms of fantasy football. Nobody really wants to talk about the Seahawks wide receiver. Despite the fact that you can’t really find Metcalf inside the top 15 on any rankings list, there are clear and obvious reasons why you can trust him as a reliable option in fantasy football.
I’ve made it pretty clear that I don’t trust Geno Smith. The was the flukiest season of all time. Even if Geno takes a step back, it should be noted that DK has established himself as the number one in this offense. Last season, Metcalf was targeted 141 times, which would have been good for 12th in the league. More importantly, Metcalf had 27 red zone targets which was number one in the NFL.
I want guys that are going to score touchdowns. The former Ole Miss product is averaging 8.75 touchdowns per season in his four year career. As Metcalf enters his prime, I’d expect him to continue to command those red area looks and be a touchdown hog in this offense. When Seattle gets in close, they give plenty of opportunities to Metcalf to be the hero.
I think we also forget that Metcalf is 6-foot-4, 235. I want guys in fantasy that score touchdowns and put up consistent production. Metcalf isn’t just consistent, he’s also incredibly durable. Probably because he’s built like a brick wall. The Seahawks wide receiver hasn’t missed a single game in his NFL career thus far. Not one.
Fantasy managers should have no issues ever pulling the trigger on Metcalf in fantasy. If and when Seattle gets a real quarterback upgrade, Metcalf’s production will likely explode for those who want to stash him in longer term leagues.
