Where Will Kevin Obanor Play Next Season After Transferring from ORU?

Oral Roberts Transfer Kevin Obanor – Where’s He Going?

If you don’t remember the name Kevin Obanor from the most recent March Madness, here’s a refresher. No. 15 seed Oral Roberts had two prominent offensive options on their roster – Max Abmas and Kevin Obanor. These two powered the Golden Eagles to upsets of No. 2 Ohio State and No. 7 Florida. ORU’s whole game plan revolved around getting Abmas or Obanor the ball and getting out of the way. In his junior season, Obanor averaged 18.7 points and 9.6 rebounds per game on 50.3% from the field and 46.3% from three. He is one of the top five players remaining in the NCAA transfer portal.

This week, the ORU transfer cut his list of potential destinations from 10 to four. The remaining schools he is considering are Illinois, Texas Tech, Alabama, and Arkansas. My initial thought for where Obanor would wind up was Illinois considering that Kofi Cockburn may transfer. Joining the Fighting Illini would give Obanor the opportunity to play a large role in the offense and start right away. However, given some recent Twitter rumblings, it appears his next chapter will be somewhere else.

Prevailing Belief is That Kevin Obanor Chooses Texas Tech

This Tweet has led many to believe that Kevin Obanor will wind up a Texas Tech Red Raider:

Tobias has had good intel lately regarding Obanor and other transfer decisions. He is also a Texas Tech alum. Many have interpreted his Tweet to mean that Kevin Obanor and Alabama transfer Jaden Shackelford will join TTU together. The only other outside possibility I see is that he is referencing Marcus Carr and Kofi Cockburn going somewhere as a package. However, given his accuracy in posting Obanor-related news of late, the Texas Tech theory is the most likely possibility.

It appears that Texas Tech will be getting some offensive firepower very soon. Decisions will likely be made by the end of this week.
