What will the Atlanta Braves do at the 2025 MLB Trade Deadline?

It’s been a slow start for the 2025 Atlanta Braves. This has led many to wonder what this team is going to do as we approach the deadline. Are they all in? Or will they be folding for a better hand next year? Let’s find out (Jason Getz/The Atlanta Journal-Constitution)

What will the Atlanta Braves do at this year’s Trade Deadline?

This year and start certainly wasn’t the one Braves fans and players expected. Going into the season, they were once again favorites to win the division and were expected to make a deep playoff run for the second consecutive year. But after a 0-7 start and multiple injuries. The Braves still don’t look like they have figured it out. This has led many to wonder what they will do as the trade deadline approaches.

We’ve seen the Braves be aggressive before. Alex Anthopoulos doesn’t like to sit back and let things play out when they aren’t going well. But this year, that might have to be the decision the team makes.

It is still technically early in the season, and the Braves could still get very hot and make all this useless. However, something feels a little off with this Braves team, and it’s evident in their 27-31 record, which places them in fourth place in the NL East.

On paper, though, this team is still one of the best in the league. Especially with Ronald Acuna Jr and Spencer Strider back, the talent on this team is simply off the charts. Making it difficult to find a suitable upgrade at any position.

I do think the Braves are still due to get hot. I also don’t think they will be quiet during this year’s deadline, especially with AJ Smith Shawver missing the rest of the year with a torn UCL. They have movable names in guys like Marcell Ozuna and Raisel Iglesias.

No joke, Ozuna is likely the best bat currently available on the market. If the Braves do decide to move on, they could maybe net a solid return that gives them the boost they need. A name like Sandy Alcantara could make sense for a team like Atlanta.

Or they could look to negate the loss of their only free agent signing, Jurickson Profar. Who was suspended 80 games for violating the league’s PED policy. Not the kind of production they were hoping for.

Both are far below expectations up to this point, and with Alcantara, it does seem like he still has the stuff. I mean, a high 90’s fastball and good changeup have to still account for something, right? Even if he’s never back to his CY Young stuff, a workhorse pitcher like Sandy could be just what this Braves team needs.

It’s clear they need another arm or two, and if a change of scenery is all Alcantara needs, the Braves could see themselves benefiting quite nicely.

So, what will the Atlanta Braves do during this year’s trade deadline? My money will be on them being aggressive. Unless by July 31st they have completely fallen out of contention, this Braves team will be looking to get better.

We’ve seen these Braves get hot before; no reason to think it can’t happen again. It’s a long season, and with the talent the Braves have, you expect them to get red hot at some point. As a Phillies fan, I just hope the rest of the NL East is ready for when that happens.

Because a couple of good trades here and there could see this Braves team eying a playoff spot once again. And we all know how dangerous this Braves team can be once it reaches the playoffs.
