What Was The Point Of The Eric Hosmer Trade?

What Was The Point Of The Eric Hosmer Trade?

What if I told you that there was a big market general manager that made one trade at the 2022 MLB Trade Deadline? After the season was over, that same guy would cut the player he traded for just six months prior. Would you say that guy deserves to keep his job? Small balls Bloom gotta go and today we have to talk about WTF was the point of the Eric Hosmer trade?

Halfway crooks. That’s exactly what this front office has become. They waste time to worry about the 39th and 40th guys on the roster. Please… someone tell me what the purpose of the Eric Hosmer trade was?

In case you missed it, Hosmer was officially released today meaning Boston didn’t get a singular inning out of him that mattered. Don’t worry guys! Chaim Bloom only wasted all of his time during the deadline getting that one trade done. Even worse, Boston probably gave up the best prospect in the deal.

The full totality of the Hosmer swap included former first round pick Jay Groome heading to San Diego. Yes, the Padres are footing the bill for Hosmer’s contract and the Sox also got back Corey Rosier and Max Ferguson. However, both are less pedigree guys than even Groome is. Neither Rosier or Ferguson are considered big league contributors.

I just don’t understand what the point of this was? Hosmer got cut because Boston had to make a separate trade for Wyatt Mills. Yes, Hosmer and Triston Casas are both lefties creating an imperfect first base fit. However, Hosmer is a leader in the clubhouse, brings A+ defense to the table, and can still hit .270 no problem which is better than what Boston had with Bobby Dalbec and Franchy Cordero. He also has a personal connection with Casas and could have been a really great mentor.

There’s just no circumstance where this makes sense. Why did that idiot waste his time if Hosmer wasn’t going to make the 2023 team anyway? If you haven’t noticed already, it’s becoming a sad trend. All he does is waste time while the true aircraft carriers leave the building. It’s only a matter of time before small balls Bloom gets sacked.
