Star Wars: Episode III-Revenge of the Sith was a PlayStation 2 and Xbox game that was released in 2005. This game, based on the movie of the same name, allowed gamers to play as Anakin Skywalker or Obi-Wan Kenobi as they go through the scenes in the movie. However, while the game follows the plot of the movie, there was an alternate ending in the PlayStation 2 game where Anakin triumphs over Obi-Wan.
This PlayStation 2 alternate ending shows Anakin killing Obi-Wan on Mustafar, the fiery lava planet at the end of Episode III, and then he proceeds to kill Darth Sidious. This alternate ending would leave Anakin, who at this point is Darth Vader, the new Sith Lord and essential ruler of the Galaxy.
This was a huge step away from the original ending of the game where Anakin fails to take out Obi-Wan on Mustafar. Obi-Wan, who notoriously has the high ground, defends himself against Anakin’s acrobatic attack and leaves the new Sith a mangled mess next to the lava. Anakin is left for dead but is found by Darth Sidious and surgically reconstructed with the iconic Darth Vader suit.
This ending directly follows the Revenge of the Sith movie ending which is the basis of the game. Star Wars Revenge of the Sith, which came out in 2005, is the third episode in a huge nine-episode saga that is one of the most popular movie franchises of all time.
The Disney+ Obi-Wan Kenobi series has just wrapped up on June 22, 2022. This series takes place between the events of Episode III and the beginning of episode IV.
This series was a real treat for Star Wars fans by continuing to build the galaxy of Star Wars through new characters as well as giving more information on a young Princess Leia and Obi-Wan’s relationships with Anakin after Episode III. The series had a few beautiful scenes that showed off the pure power of Darth Vader and the complex righteousness of the character Obi-Wan Kenobi.
The Disney+ series added more depth and emotion to the events that took place in the Star Wars movies, specifically episode III. The Obi-Wan Kenobi series is a great compliment to the end of Episode III and the full nine-episode saga as a whole. However, one does wonder how the Star Wars story would have played out had Anakin killed Obi-Wan like in the alternate ending of the Star Wars Revenge of the Sith game.
