During Training Camp practice Thursday, Cincinnati Bengals quarterback Joe Burrow suffered a significant injury scare.
He was carted off the field with what looked to be a knee injury during live practice, but after the session was completed, head coach Zac Taylor told reporters that the injury was a calf injury, according to NFL.com insider Mike Garafolo.
Below is a video of the injury, which occurred during an 11-on-11 session as he was flushing out of the pocket and looking downfield for a receiver. It was a non-contact injury.
The severity of the calf injury plus the timetable for how long Burrow will be out has not yet been released and likely won’t be for the next several hours.
Burrow, 26, tore his right ACL in Week 11 of his rookie season in 2020, but he has still turned himself into one of the NFL’s best quarterbacks over the last two seasons. He completed 68.3 percent of his passes last year for 4,475 yards, 35 touchdowns and 12 interceptions a year ago, earning his first Pro Bowl bid. Burrow has led Cincinnati to two consecutive AFC Title games and one Super Bowl appearance in three seasons.
The Bengals, favorites to win their third straight AFC North Title, host the Cleveland Browns in Week 1 on Sept. 10.
This is a developing story. Stay tuned for updates.
