The Washington Capitals have re-signed center Dylan Strome to a five-year, $25 million extension, according to the Capitals’ Twitter.
Senior vice president and general manager, Brian MacLellan, made comments on Strome and what he means to the Capitals organization.
“Dylan is an intelligent and skilled center and has been a great addition to our organization,” said MacLellan, via Capitals Press Release. “We are pleased to sign him to a long-term contract. We feel his skill set is a great fit for our team as he enters the prime years of his career at an important position.”
Strom will be seeing a big pay raise from $3.5 million to $5 million a year. But, in his contract, he will not be receiving any bonuses.
The Arizona Coyotes selected Strome third overall in the 2015 NHL Draft. Many teams considered Strome a top prospect coming into the league, but in only 48 games in his first three seasons with the Coyotes, Strome obtained just 16 points. He would eventually be traded to the Chicago Blackhawks in 2018. He found a rental home in Chicago for a short stint, boosting his stats in four seasons for the Blackhawks before signing a one-year deal with the Capitals.
In Washington, the 25-year-old has recorded 11 goals and 25 assists in 52 games for the Capitals this season. As the Capitals push for another playoff berth this season, Strome will be an essential part of their offense. With Strome only being 25, he still hasn’t hit his ceiling in potential.
The Mississauga, Ontario, native has recorded 206 points in 325 games with the Coyotes, Blackhawks and Capitals.
Overall, Capitals fans should be very happy with the signing of Dylan Strome, as he gets a cheap deal of only $5 million a year for five years.
