Von Miller to Miss Rest of Season after ACL Surgery
Buffalo Bills linebacker Von Miller is expected to miss the rest of the season, according to a report from NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport on Wednesday.
The news came after an exploratory surgery revealed that Miller would need to get his ACL repaired. The injury in question occurred in the Buffalo’s Thanksgiving game against the Lions. While initial reports pegged it as a nonserious injury, a closer look has revealed that surgery on his ACL was needed.
This serves as a huge blow for a defense ranked top-10 in both yards and points allowed. This is a defense already dealing with the loss of Micah Hyde, so the Bills are sure to miss Miller’s production as well.
Through 11 games, Von Miller has racked up eight sacks with 10 tackles for loss as a constant threat for opposing offensive lines. His play has played an instrumental role in the Bills having such a highly rated defense.
The likes of Gregory Rousseau and Shaq Lawson will be relied on to pick up the slack in terms of the pass rush department. Second-year pass rusher Boogie Basham should also see some increased playing time as a result of the injury. If Basham comes in and plays well, it could be a silver lining to appreciate in wake of the news.
This injury is obviously a devastating one for a Bills team primed to make a run at the Super Bowl. But as is often the case in the NFL, injuries create chaos. Now the Bills are going to have to rely on guys to step up and fill the absence that Miller is leaving. It surely won’t be easy, and his presence will be missed, but with the playoffs right around the corner, there isn’t any time to complain about injuries.
