Von Miller Eyeing GM Career Post Retirement

NFL legend and current Buffalo Bills Edge rusher Von Miller made the trip to Indianapolis to watch the 2023 NFL Combine. The goal for the 33-year-old Miller? To hone his skills for his post-retirement career as a general manager.

“It’s what I want to do,” Miller said to Mike Klis of 9News. “I don’t have any experience. I know what a great football team looks like. I know what a winning football team looks like. A great staff, great equipment guys, and great athletic trainers. I know what that looks like, I know what it takes to build those teams, but that’s it.

“So, I’m here to meet with guys, for the guys to give me instructions on what to do with my right foot next, and what to do with my left foot next. And make the first steps to making this happen.”

Miller is already eyeing his post-career plans. Some guys become commentators, and some become coaches or start their own businesses. Miller is keen on evaluating and drafting talent.

The most notable player-turned-general manager in the league has to be John Elway, the man who drafted Miller No. 2 overall.

Miller recognized this and shouted out Elway’s career. In fact, it seems like Miller got some inspiration from Elway to pursue this job.

“To see a former player come back in the league and be a GM and win a Super Bowl as a player and win a Super Bowl as a GM? Oh my gosh. That’s where the dream really started,” Miller said. “John Elway won a Super Bowl on the field and off the field. He’s the GOAT.”

Miller, Super Bowl 50 MVP, would be trying to join Elway as the only person with a ring on the field as a player and as a general manager.

Retirement still seems like a ways away for Miller, but an ACL tear doesn’t help his longevity. The former Bronco and Ram tore his ACL after 11 games in his first season as a Bill.

Miller signed a six-year, $120 million deal with the Buffalo Bills this past offseason.

To reach your goals, you have to start somewhere. Von will start early by attending this year’s NFL Combine in Indianapolis.

Von Miller still has plenty of games left in him. When he hangs up the cleats, however, don’t be surprised if he becomes your favorite team’s general manager.
