This past year, longtime WWE chairman and CEO, Vince McMahon, announced his retirement from the company amid reports of sexual misconduct. His retirement was short as it was announced earlier this month he would be returning to the company to reportedly help execute a sale and media deal. With his return to WWE, the news of a settlement may not come as a surprise to some.
The news of a settlement was reported by The Wall Street Journal. Former WWE referee Rita Chatterton accused McMahon of raping her in the back of a limousine in 1986. Despite the settlement, McMahon’s lawyer denies any truth to the allegations and claims a settlement was agreed upon in order to avoid the cost of litigation. It has not been disclosed exactly how much the settlement was for but it is said to be a “multi-million dollar settlement.”
McMahon’s return to the WWE lit the wrestling world on fire as it was shortly followed by the departure of his daughter, Stephanie McMahon, as co-CEO of the company. Later that same night, there were reports of a potential sale to a Saudi Arabian Investment Fund. Many fans were not excited to hear Vince McMahon would be returning to WWE, but it was multiplied by ten when it was followed by Stephanie McMahon’s resignation and reports of a sale to Saudi Arabia.
Fans were able to relax after the reports were proven to not be true, but a sale of the company is still imminent. The buyer is yet to be determined, but it seems to be coming. Vince McMahon has not been able to keep himself out of headlines lately and it has not been for good reason.
