Terence Newman is officially returning for his 15th NFL season, a number that is normally unheard of for a defensive player. Heading into age 39, the Vikings have re-signed the veteran cornerback Terence Newman. The team announced the move that will be for 1-year worth $3 million.
We have agreed to terms with CB @terencenewman.
Newman has been with the Vikings since 2015. He was originally a former first round pick in 2003 from Kansas State where the Cowboys selected him 5th overall. Newman also played for the Bengals under former defensive coordinator Mike Zimmer who is now the head coach of the Vikings. Newman’s 41 career interceptions is 2nd among active players behind DeAngelo Hall.
The Vikings lost Captain Munnerlyn in free agency so Newman figures to play a large role in 2017. Xavier Rhodes has already cemented himself as a top corner but the development of 2016 2nd round pick Mackensie Alexander will be crucial for the Minnesota secondary.
