The Vegas Golden Knights officially lost Jake Leschyshyn via waivers today. The Rangers made a claim and have landed the former Vegas forward. Leschyshyn was a second rounder in 2017 leading you to believe that maybe there is some promise in there somewhere. However, the actual NHL results we have been given thus far lead you to believe that this won’t impact the VGK at all.
Did Gerard Gallant tell the Rangers to claim Leschyshyn as some sort of revenge? Otherwise, this move doesn’t make a whole lot of sense. Primarily because Leschyshyn might legitimately be the single worst player in the NHL. I was shocked someone actually claimed him.
I watch a lot of Golden Knights hockey. I can’t tell you what that guy is good at. I’m not sure you can even find a single real highlight of Leschyshyn. He’s just that bad. In 22 games this year, Leschyshyn is a -7 with zero goals and zero assists. In 41 games the year prior, he had six total points (two goals and four assists).
Will Leschyshyn actually suit up for the Rangers? Keep in mind this is a Rangers team that’s starting to get poo-pooed on when it comes to player development. What happened to Alexis Lafrenière? Some are calling him a bust. Is there any plan here at all? Are the Rangers really going to slot Leschyshyn in the lineup as a 3rd line center? That’s something I wouldn’t advise.
Crazier things have happened before, but no, I wouldn’t say losing Jake Leschyshyn is a big deal. On days when the roster is fully healthy, Leschyshyn should never crack the VGK lineup.
