Vernon Broughton goes through the 2025 NFL Draft profile series microscope next. You know the deal by now so how about we agree to skip the hoopla and get to the point on the Texas defensive tackle!

Broughton, 23, was a four star recruit during the 2020 cycle. The Houston, Texas, native was ranked as the 197th overall player, 18th ranked DT, and 31st ranked player in the state. The redshirt senior checks in at 6-foot-5, 311, with 35 inch arms and spent all five years with the Longhorns.

2024 was really the breakout season. He notched 39 tackles, 4.5 TFLs with 4 sacks, 2 PBUs, and 2 FFs this past year. He was never the starter until this past but I’m not sure we can hold that against him. When you consider the fact that he was the primary backup behind Byron Murphy II and T’Vondre Sweat, he probably deserves credit for not leaving. When Broughton did get that chance, he shined.

It sucks that we don’t have any pre-draft stuff to work with. No All-Star game and No Combine performance. Given the limited track record, it sure would have been nice to evaluate the pure athlete part of his game. Doesn’t look overly powerful, but has some decent foot quickness to him.

I like Vernon Broughton. Just as long as we’re realistic that this is probably a depth piece at three technique. Somewhere in the round 4-5 range makes sense.
