Vendetta Vibe Playlist: August 9th, 2021. Live And Acoustic

This week, I presented a special challenge to our group of writers for this week’s Vendetta Vibe Playlist: Send me a song that is either an acoustic performance or a live performance. There are some great entries, but there is an issue with this type of challenge. The problem with this is that most of the good ones aren’t available on Spotify, so for today only, we won’t be having a Spotify playlist, and I will instead be linking every song on the article here for you to enjoy.

Scott Logush: “Keepin’ Busy” – Jordan Rager

Jordan has some amazing work, but what I really enjoy about his music is that he’ll post videos on his YouTube channel of just him singing and playing his guitar. Most of those songs are unreleased songs, dubbed “Work In Progress Sessions.” One of my favourites is “Keepin’ Busy,” as it describes how someone is doing everything they can to keep busy, so they don’t have time to think about the one that got away. Despite that topic, the chords and strumming are very upbeat. Every song from the Work In Progress Sessions is great. I listen to them daily.

Aarav Rainia: “Thinking Out Loud” – Ed Sheeran

Almost everyone has heard the original song somewhere, but this acoustic version is just on a different level. Ed Sheeran has a brilliant voice, and the simplicity of the song is beautiful. Even if you don’t have anyone that comes to mind when hearing this song, Sheeran makes you feel as if you’re in a long-lasting, healthy relationship. That’s how impressive his story-telling is.

Alex Chick: “Objects In The Mirror” – Mac Miller

Although the original “Objects In The Mirror” is a great song, the live version is just so much better. I wish they had the live version as the original in the studio. The beat flows so much better. It has a great flow to the song and with how unique Mac Miller beats always were, this is one of my favorites.

Alex Chick: “Redbone” – The Main Squeeze

Another one of my favorite live versions of a song is actually a cover from a lesser known band called The Main Squeeze. A friend recommended this bands cover of the popular song “Redbone” by Childish Gambino. This live version is the only version I can find on Spotify from this band. The guy’s voice is beautiful and the guy on guitar is just awesome. “Redbone” by Childish Gambino is a fantastic song and always a vibe, but so is this version with the same kinda vibe. Also at the 3:30 mark, there’s a two minute guitar solo. (He has a better solo for this song on YouTube but this one doesn’t disappoint.) Also go find some The Main Squeeze is a great band you should look into!

Gavin Daly: “Hey Joe” – Jimi Hendrix

There’s few artists I would die to see live and it be worth every minute. Jimi Hendrix is one of those. What he could do with a guitar puts all others to shame. Pick any live performance and give it a listen, but for the interest of this playlist I’ve gone with the classic “Hey Joe.”

Jarrod Prosser: “Mama Said Knock You Out” – LL Cool J

Scott’s remit this week was to give him an acoustic/unplugged number. That gives me the opportunity to honour a true American hero: NCIS Special Agent Sam Hanna. When he’s not saving the United States of America one terror plot at a time, he’s on stage MCing like a mad mother fucker. Here’s one of Special Agent Hanna’s early numbers – presumably long before his law enforcement career – under his stage name, LL Cool J. Hanna/Cool J closed the storied MTV Unplugged Hip Hop show all the way back in 1991 with his monster hit “Mama Said Knock You Out.” Great version of a great track. Finally, for the ladies, please enjoy five and a half minutes of shirtless Special Agent Hanna.

I decided to try something new this week for the Vendetta Vibe Playlist. I often find that acoustic and live performances are better than the music that gets officially produced and that there is a greater variety with this type of music. Tune in next week for your regularly scheduled program.
