The 2024 NBA Finals between the Dallas Mavericks is officially here! Before the series, I asked them a series of questions–that I will also answer–regarding the series. It’s time to answer the hard-hitting question: Who will win the NBA Finals and who will win the Finals MVP? Let’s see what the crew says:
Jiarmani: Celtics in 5. It is Boston’s series to lose even with as many people in the basketball community picking Dallas. Are we just going to ignore what Boston has become over this past year? Even this postseason without Kristaps Porzingis they only lost two games. The only team that can beat the Celtics now is the Celtics. Dallas has played great but has not faced a team like Boston.
Trey: Celtics in 5. Banner 18 will be raised.
James M.: I’m pulling Dallas. Luka Doncic and Kyrie Irving have found their rhythm. Their bench and support players delivered against Minnesota, the team that took down last year’s champs. However, it’s not going to be easy. It’s Boston’s series to lose. Don’t forget, they were heavy favorites in 2022 as well. I’m going Dallas in 7.
Chickster: My biased answer because I don’t want to see Trey happy with all the shit he’s talked for the Celtics is Mavs in 7. My logical answer is Celtics in 6. Celtics have a very good and deep team, which makes them hard to beat in a 7 game series. I would be lying if I said I wasn’t pulling for Kyrie and Luka, though.
Matt: Boston in 6. My full explanation is here. Now, if you excuse me, I’m going to go wash my mouth out with soap.
Jiarmani: Jayson Tatum. Although Jaylen Brown is a close second. Tatum has been under the most criticism and adversity as a superstar. I believe this series will be a wake-up call to basketball. That Jayson Tatum is better than people want to give him credit for.
Trey: Tatum or Brown. Does it really matter? After Andre Iguodala won over Steph Curry that one year it’s hard to take the voters seriously.
James M.: If Luka keeps it up, it should be all his. I don’t think he gets his flowers during the regular season. If he can put Dallas over the Celtics, he deserves a lot more than Finals MVP.
Chickster: Mavs win, it’s Luka without a doubt. But if the Celtics win, I think it’s Kristaps Porzingis, KP is a nightmare matchup for Dallas. Dallas can cover wings pretty well, but I think Lively will have trouble with KP.
Matt: Jayson Tatum, should Boston win. I think he averages a double-double and brushes off any naysayers for at least a little while longer. If Dallas wins, it’ll be Doncic.
