Utah Doesn’t Want Cam Rising Anymore

It turns out we’ve seen the last of Cam Rising at Utah. The 6-foot-2 quarterback got hurt in October after only playing in three games. Despite having eligibility remaining, the expectation is that he won’t be back with the Utes in 2025.

Matt Zenitz over at 247 Sports was the first to report the news:

“The current expectation is that the star QB won’t be back with the Utes next season, sources tell CBS Sports/247Sports.”

“It’s unclear at this point whether Rising plans to head to the NFL or whether he plans to apply for a medical hardship waiver and then use that extra year of eligibility. Rising is eligible for the waiver because of being limited to three games this year due to an injury.”

Cam Rising Ruled Out For 2024 Season, Could Earn 8th Year Of Eligibility

Rising, 25, would play in his eighth college season if he were to return to playing again. Which can’t be ruled out the guy looked permanently injured this year even before this latest one. He just doesn’t look the same. Eye test wise it looks like they’ve taken a toll on him. The version we saw in 2021, I’m not sure he’s ever coming back.

Right now it’s a total mystery who will be the starting quarterback at Utah in 2025. Isaac Wilson, Zach Wilson’s younger brother, closed the 2024 season as the starter. He’s now entering the portal so that option isn’t even there for them either. Devon Dampier is transferring there from New Mexico so it would appear he’s the favorite for 2025 but that’s no guarantee.
