How anyone would willingly go out and try and recruit defensive lineman Bear Alexander is beyond me. This dude simply cannot make up his mind on where he wants to go to school. I wouldn’t even be surprised if he didn’t actually sign with Oregon like 247Sports.com is reporting, and instead transferred elsewhere. It’s just who he is. Maybe he has some bad folks in his camp giving him mixed signals. Maybe he cant make a decision for himself. But for now, Alexander will be an Oregon Duck in 2025.
Credit to Dan Lanning in the sense of staying consistent and persistent to get his guy. When Lanning was at Georgia, he was a major factor in the commitment of Bear Alexander. Alexander would only play one season for the Bulldogs before transferring to USC for the last two seasons, but not before considering leaving a handful of times. Now, Lanning finally gets his guy, hopefully, and can put him into the system he wants. It’s worth noting that Alexander played for four(!) different high schools, so don’t count your ducks before they hatch.
Listen, there’s no doubt that Bear Alexander is talented. Injuries got to him this past season, but in 2023 he finished with 47 total tackles including 1.5 sacks. Alexander is one of the top prospects in the transfer portal, but I’d be scared to death trying to recruit him. How can I trust he will sign his transfer papers? This guy could wake up tomorrow and say nah, let me re-think this again. I’ll believe that Alexander is an Oregon Duck when I see it next season. Until then, here’s to hoping he actually stays true to his word, which has been a massive struggle in his life.
