USA Cricket Team Qualifies for Super 8 in ICC T20 World Cup

The USA Cricket team has made history as they advanced past the group stages at a major international tournament for the first time in their cricketing history. Their historic win against Pakistan has allowed them to finish in the top 2 of their group alongside powerhouse nation, India and enter the quarterfinals of the ICC T20 World Cup.

The team has been led by solid performances with the bat from Aaron Jones and Monank Patel as well some tremendous bowling from the phenom Saurabh Netravalkar, who works as an engineer for Oracle alongside to taking wickets on the biggest stage of cricket.

USA cricket played its first game against Canada where they gave up 194 runs in just the 20 overs but somehow chased it down, largely in part due to an innings of 94 runs not out by Aaron Jones. Next was the big one, where they toppled Pakistan, a cricketing powerhouse albeit a very watered-down version, and it went right down to the wire. After 20 overs for both teams, they still couldn’t be separated with both scoring 159 runs. Aaron Jones tied it up in the last over in dramatic fashion ensuring the USA got 15 runs off the last 6 balls. In the tie-breaking super over, Pakistan shot themselves in the foot with several miscues and extras which helped the USA score a tremendous 19 runs which Pakistan didn’t come close to equating.

After a close bout with India which they lost, all the USA cricket team needed to do was win or split points against Ireland and the match getting rained out led to the team taking a point home each, pushing the USA cricket team to the next round.

What this USA cricket team has done shouldn’t be understated. They beat out a prominent cricketing team in Pakistan to advance to the quarter-finals of a World Cup. This is tremendous for the growth of the sport in the USA and should influence many young kids to look into the sport for the first time ever. If they somehow miraculously make it to the semi-finals or further, it will truly be one of the greatest underdog stories in sports.
