Coming off a disappointing end to the 2023 FIBA World Cup, Team USA is looking for a bounce-back showing in the 2024 Olympics, which will be in Paris, France.
Back in September, it was reported that LeBron James could be re-joining Team USA–in addition to Joel Embiid, Stephen Curry, Kevin Durant, Anthony Davis and Jayson Tatum, among others.
That was confirmed Tuesday, as USA Basketball officially released their initial 41-player pool ahead of the 2024 Olympics. Only 12 players will ultimately make the team, and barring something unforeseen, those 12 will be from this list of candidates.
“The United States boasts unbelievable basketball talent and I am thrilled that many of the game’s superstars have expressed interest in representing our country at the 2024 Olympic Summer Games,” Grant Hill, an 18-year NBA veteran and Team USA’s current managing director, said in a statement Tuesday. “It is a privilege to select the team that will help us toward the goal of once again standing atop the Olympic podium. This challenging process will unfold over the next several months as we eagerly anticipate the start of national team activity.”

Only 13 players on this list have partaken in the Olympics on this list, including six of those who won Gold for Team USA in the 2020 Olympics. 15 additional players were a part of Team USA’s World Cup team at some point, too.
This is clearly a stacked pool for Team USA, who has won four straight gold medals and will be looking for their fifth in the summer. The Olympics typically elicits more star players than the World Cup because it’s obviously the bigger event. So perhaps history will continue, though the pool of international talent has only continued to grow.
