Unai Emery Agrees To Five-Year Extension With Aston Villa

Premier League club Aston Villa has announced on social media that they have agreed to a five-year extension with manager Unai Emery until 2029.

“I am very happy to take this step and the responsibility of leading this club,” Emery said in a statement. “Since I came to Villa with Wes and Nassef we found always the best environment and structure to develop a project with the highest ambition. All the football structure with Monchi and Damian and the owners, we share the same vision and same goals.”

“There’s a great chemistry in Aston Villa. And the element of the fans’ support also makes the difference to feel like home. We are really excited to continue this journey with no limits to our dreams.”

Emery took charge of Aston Villa in the middle of the 22/23 season after Villa had sacked former manager Steven Gerrard. Villa was in 16th place when Unai took the head of the team and was able to finish the 22/23 season in 7th on the table and qualify for the UEFA Conference League.

With the conclusion of the 23/24 season, Emery and Villa have finished in fourth place and qualified for the Champions League for the first time in 41 years.

“We are building something special here at Aston Villa with Unai at its core and we are delighted that he has signed a new deal with the club until 2029,” Chairman Nassef Sawiris said. “As we move into our historic, 150th anniversary year, there is a lot to look forward to with Unai at the helm.”

Liverpool lost Jürgen Klopp and hired Arne Slot as his replacement. And with the reports of Pep Guardiola leaving Man City after next season, it could be Unai and Aston Villa’s time to shine. Emery could show Arsenal the manager he could be if given the time to build a team instead of expecting immediate results.
