I just published the 2025 NFL Draft profile on Henry Parrish Jr. Now it’s time to talk about his backup, Ulysses Bentley IV, who also has NFL potential. I got about 250 more of these to do so if you don’t mind, I’m just going to get to the point now.
I guess this is the best place to start. The Bentley combo with Parrish fit well together. Bentley was the power back of the group. 5-foot-10, 210, so not overly big for that role. On the older side too already being 24. Felt like he was in college forever but it’s three years at SMU and three years at Ole Miss. Had one season at SMU where he got 170 carries. Otherwise was below 100 every other year of his career. Again, was mostly in a reserve role every single year.
Former three star guy out of the state of Texas. Rushed for 913 yards during his second season at SMU but never got close to that mark after. Rushed for 419 yards this past year and had all the opportunity in the world to carry the team once Parrish went down. Nothing to write home about in the passing game department either.
I wouldn’t say the Combine performance here was super impressive. Bentley posted the worst 40-yard time of any player at the position. I guess that’s not a surprise given that he was the back up at Ole Miss and fills the void of a power back. Still, there is zero high end juice here and that’s obvious. A lot of mediocre flashes that never wow you.
I don’t know how to say it other than by saying that he’s incredibly flawed and was mostly a college backup for a reason. He’s a power back that lacks real size that doesn’t feel translatable at the next level. Not enough power in his game as a blocker either to think he can be an outlier. Plus, it’s not like there are special vision or cutback moves that make you believe he can gain some hidden peak that we haven’t seen yet. He’s very much on the older side and really may have the most upside as a weird secondary kicker returner on special teams. I don’t know what there is here beyond that.
Not that this is going to surprise you but I have an undrafted grade on Ulysses Bentley IV. I don’t mind getting an extra look in the preseason but this is just a player that screams zero upside. He is what he is.
